Tonight I have to have my dog put down. He is a 12 year old English Cocker Spaniel who is truely my best bud. I have never had to do this before so please wish me luck!

HUGS for you! I've had to do this 3 times...never an easy thing. Don't be surprised if you cry all night & off and on for a few days!

I lost it when I came home & saw her food dish on the floor.

So sorry to hear about your dog :( .

I'm sooo sorry---I'll be thinkin of you

Sorry to hear you have to do this! What a sad day for you.

Always tough, tmq. :( We always seem to know when the 'right' time is though. Your little guy has brought you many years of joy and companionship, those memories will be forever with you, forever. And some day, you'll see your bud by that bridge, my very best .........

<center><p><font size="+1" face="Comic Sans MS">Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.<br>
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.<br>
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.<br>
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.<br>
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.<br>
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.<br>
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.<br>
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.<br>
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....<br>

Thanks everyone! I know you guys will understand when I tell you that this dog has some sort of extra sensory or something because he could always tell when something was not right with me. Through my divorce and the death of my father he was always right there sitting by my legs making me feel a little better. The hard part is going to be my DD9 I have alreasdy told her what is going to happen and she has decided that we will be in there with him and hold him to the end.

So very sorry. It is not an easy thing to do. We had to have our american cocker put down. It was the hardest thing. I cried for a week. I don't think our male cocker has ever recovered from the loss. He's been pretty mopey and lazy for the last 3 years.

 I'm so sorry, I know what you're going through as I had to have my cat put to sleep just before Christmas. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. She was already at the vet's when they called to tell me what was wrong with her (cancer, and it was in her spine) and I made the decision to let her go. The doctor asked if I wanted to be there and I told him no, but after I hung up I changed my mind so called back but there was no answer (cell phone) so I decided it was probably just as well, I'm not sure I would have had the courage to be there. I will always miss her.

Wishing you all the best tonight. I had my dog put to sleep in March, and that was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Denny was my baby, so seeing him take his last breath was extremely difficult. Just like others have posted, I cried myself to sleep for a week after Denny was gone. It's still hard to come in to the house and not have him greet me at the door. {{{Hugs}}}

I'm so sorry..Ive had to put a dog down, 2 days after my dad died.... :( She had Diabetes and the drugs for keeping the water out of her lungs and heart were not working anymore.

I stayed with her, she was my moms dog and my mom could not handle it so soon after my dad died.

It still makes me sad.

I'm so sorry. When we had to put our Shepard down several years ago it was very sad, but I tried to look on the brightest side I could - she was not in pain or suffering anymore. I still have her collar and tags.

I am so sorry. Our pets are a part of our families. I will be thinking of you and your DD.

I told DD that she could keep his collar and tags to put in her special box.
