Tonga Toast

IChallah bread, stuffed with a banana, then deep fried in oil...then rolled in granulated sugar.

YUCK! It was greasy and overly sugary. The inside where the banana is was cold as well. This was a huge disappointment for me and I did not eat it.

Just the thought!!

I was going to say we had it and it wasn't greasy - then I remembered. We had something like this at PO but it was not deep fried - it was sweet, mostly from the bananas. I could not take deep fried since it give me a migraine.

We are Tonga Toast fans at my house. I would suggest trying it and not feeling like you have to finish it.
Definitely remember this! Maybe that's why it didn't bother me...I did not try to finish it. Just ate what I knew I could take. :thumbsup2

DH and I both love it. We share it when we get it. Anytime we have had it, it hasn't been overly greasy, if it was I would have have major tummy troubles within an hour of eating it and I was always fine.

We love it too. But we order one piece to share along with our regular breakfast choices.

I ordered it for our 2005 trip

I really enjoyed it for about the first 5 bites, then I found it got grosser by the second. Nothing wrong with it (ie: how it was cooked etc.) it just was a fairly strong taste, and not one that I was up for at 8am :rotfl2:

but by all means try it if you feel like it! :thumbsup2

Bring on the TONGA TOAST!!! I can see this breakfast is something either you love or don't. My DH didn't even want to taste it -- he loved his omelet! But me ... I thought it was just yum. I think I ate the whole thing!!!! Along with some fresh fruit -- doesn't the fresh fruit cancel out the calories???

Ya just gotta try it once -- then you can be a hater or a lover. Lord knows there are lots of other meals to be had if Tonga Toast turns out to be a food you don't ever want again. Now ... hurry up November at the Poly and Tonga Toast for me!! :teeth:

Someone asked in an earlier post. Is it overloaded with bananas. Ok, now. I like bananas, I eat them when I am in the mood for them. Sometimes, I can only eat half of banana because, the texture gets to me. Ok, now banana pudding. I love it if the bananas are thinly sliced, but if there are thick chunks of banana. I would surely pass.I love fried foods though, and sugary sweetness Now, since you have a backround of my liking for bananas. Is tonga toast something you suggest I try? Is the banana inside chunks, or are they sliced thin. Is it overly loaded with bananas. I really want to try it, but know if it is loaded with big hunks of bananas. I would definately not want it thanks in advance for your answers.

My DH and I have the Tonga Toast at least once every trip, its a tradition. And yes, we each have our own and eat every last bite...with syrup :teeth: As for the bananas, they are sliced thinly and there aren't alot of them in the toast. Just enough to get a slight banana taste but thats it. Only 4 more months and we'll have free Tonga

Tonga Toast is  yummy do as we do share it and ask for it not deep fried. Same great taste without all the greasy fat.

PS :wave2: We just got back to our room at BWV and that's where we just had breakfest.

Is it large enough for 2 to share? Just wondering because I have two girls who would like to try it, but I doubt they could each finish a plate.

On page 106 of the Sticky Thread "Show us your Disney Dining Food" is a picture of the Tonga Toast cut in half so that you can see the inside.

I usually don't have a sweet tooth at all for breakfast. But I love Tonga Toast! I couldn't do it every day, or even more than once a trip, but it's definitely something I look forward to when planning a WDW vacation. :)

Tonga Toast is amazing. Def. my favorite breakfast item on my 2002 trip when i stayed at the Polynesian.

We love Tonga Toast, but my DH and I have to split it. It's just too rich. We were there last week and I'll have to say it wasn't as good as usual. It was very very greasy. I was a little sick after eating my 1/2. I think I'll be giving Tonga Toast a rest for awhile.
