Tonga toast worth the trip to Kona?

I love the Poly and the Kona Cafe but agree with others it's not just for the Tonga Toast. IMHO it was way too sweet and kinda soggy. I would go out of my way to the Kona for the coffee.

I want to hear more about the pressed coffee too. The tonga toast sounds good to me but the carb coma on a park day won't work. A great cup of coffee at disney is a treat!

we had our 2nd breakfast at kona last saturday am-so i had the tonga toast-i enjoyed it very much-i was a little disappointed with their eggs benedict on wed am-someting about the hollandaise sauce.

already a week since we were there :confused3 :earseek:

Definitely worth it so long as it fits with your plans. I am staying at poly and looking forward to tonga toast from room service.

We had it less than two weeks ago. Not greasy at all. Reminded me of a doughnut with banana. We loved it. BTW, they bring syrup with it. At least try it without first. We didn't use the syrup at all.

There was a receipe for the tonga toast in a magazine, and I thought cool I will make it at home. Well lets just say I will leave it to Disney next time, mine was a true grease ball!!!! They must do something a little different, because my bread really soaked up the grease

Tonga toast and coffee at the Kona cafe- does life get any better? yes it's worth the trip!

Just to offer another opinion, I had heard so much about Kona and Tonga Toast that I decided to try it for myself.

A little about myself--I love french toast, bananas, and sweet things. That being said I thought Tonga Toast was going to be incredible.

What did I find? I did NOT like it at all. It was sourdough bread stuffed with bananas, and then fried. Coated in cinnamin sugar COVERED IN SUGAR I might add. The bananas were cold on the inside, and it had so much sugar I thought I was going to be sick.

I did not care for this at all, and would definitely NOT go out of my way to go to Kona for it. If Kona is convenient you might want to try it for yourself as only you will be able to decide if you like it, but do not make a special trip only to possibly be disappointed. This was a huge let down for me.

I didn't like the Tonga Toast either. I thought it was greasy. But others have gotten it that it wasn't greasy at all. I guess it depends on the chef.
