Tonga toast worth the trip to Kona?

We will be staying at BWV for most of our trip in February. I've been wanting to try the tonga toast so I've made a breakfast ADR at the Kona Cafe midweek during our stay. I guess we would drive to the MK lot, then take the monorail over to the Poly. We could then spend the rest of the morning at MK.

We ended up adding one extra night to our stay at WL. My other option is to check out of BWV, head over to Kona for a late breakfast, then go to WL to check in.

Or...is it really not worth the hassle at all? Should we just stick with more convenient breakfast locations, either inside the parks or the actual resorts where we are staying?

Thanks! :earsboy:

Others may say it is, but I don't think it's anything special. Kona's other breakfasts are much better than the Tonga Toast - it's just overly sweet, overly heavy banana stuffed french toast.

They *are* a great place for breakfast, but if it's a hassle, I'd just have breakfast at a more convenient location. Spoodles is an excellent restaurant for breakfast, since you're staying at the BWV.

The tonga toast isn't worth making a special trip for, but the calabash breakfast at Kona sure is. Kona is one of our favorite breakfast spots, but not because of the tonga toast.

YES!! It is definitely worth making a trip for. The ambience of the Poly and the food and atmoshpere at the Kona are well worth a trip. It is a must do for us every trip. enjoy :wave2:

I say definitely!! We love it and are making a special trip ourselves :)

We love the Kona, and I usually stay at the poly. Next trip we are staying at BC though, and I will make a special trip. Everything I have eaten there has been great. I thought the tonga toast was good, but a little greasy.

Order the Lilikoi juice. It's wonderful.

DH and I love the Tonga Toast, but as stated, it's not for everyone. We always try to do a breakfast at Kona during our trips.

I believe the AK Rainforest Cafe has Tonga Toast. I think I saw it on that menu also. Do you have a day planned at that park? And there's a Rainforest Cafe in DTD, also. Can anyone confirm that they have it there also? I just made ressies at AK for the Tonga Toast! They better have it!!

I just looked at Kona's breakfast menu on AllEars and didn't see a Calabash breakfast listed. What is this?

I finally ate Tonga Toast about a month ago.
It was good, as anything at Kona's is.
But to me it was basically a large sugar donut with a little banana in the middle. :confused3

Bummer, you're right - I guess the Calabash breakfast bit the dust. :(

It was sort of a "skillet" breakfast, with eggs, potatoes, maybe sausage, maybe mushrooms (0bviously my memory's a little fuzzy here), but it was definitely covered with a cheese sauce, and it was definitely yummy!

I did also try the Tonga Toast, and it was way too sweet for me. However, Kona is still a great place for breakfast. Go there if it seems appealing - I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy.

The description for Tonga Toast at Rainforest Cafe is:
Tonga Toast - cinnamon French toast with warm maple syrup topped with fresh strawberries, bananas and walnuts, served with your choice of bacon or sausage $8.99

Not the same as Tonga Toast at Kona.
Tonga Toast - banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar with choice of ham, bacon, or sausage $8.99

As stated earlier, everyone's tastes are different.

But my husband would never forgive me if we didn't make it over to Kona so he could have their tonga toast. We usually stay at BCV - walk through EPCOT to the monorail station and then hop a ride over to the Poly.

We love Tonga Toast and always go to the Kona Cafe once during our stay. Last trip we discovered that the sit down restaurant at POR has the same thing as Tonga Toast but the name was different. Of course the atmosphere is tropical at the Poly and they have great Kona coffee, too, so that would be my first choice of where to enjoy it.

I may go against the majority but I say no. It was totally over rated. Mushy , brown bananas  It wasnt good at all but to each his own.

The Tonga Toast is good, but it's the KONA PRESSED POT that makes it worth the trip!

Not to ruin the "Tonga Toast experience", but each piece soaks up a full yummy 8oz of fryer grease. Yep a half pound of fryer grease!
