Where would you stay with your family for a few days?

Neither are my choice but since we have a new four legged addition we need to find new accomodations. We usually stay in Lavallette but the motel is not pet friendly and we want to stay in the same area since we will be able to take her to Island Beach State Park. I have been to Seaside but have never stayed there because I don't see it as a family place, I have never been to Tom's River.

Uhh, I would NOT take my family to Seaside. I remember hanging out there when I was a teen so I took the kids to the Boardwalk and what was going on there was definately NOT family friendly. i had to cover my DS's eyes more than once and this was before the JERSEY SHORE MTV show made it the place to be for kids looking for trouble. I can only imagine what it must be like today.

Be careful with Toms River too, some of those places can be nasty. Check them out on Trip Advisor. I'd suggest looking at the Morey's Piers properties like the StarLux in case any of them take pets. They used to be nice but its been a while.

Cape May is also a good choice with pet friendly spots but it depends on how necessary the location is for you

Point Plesant (sp?), Spring Lake, Bay Head - do any of these places have a pet friendly places? They are nice areas.

I did find one in Point Pleasant, the Carousel Inn. Its listed on a website as pet-friendly but it doesn't have its own site and I haven't called to confirm.

I would stay far, far away from Sleeside Heights...Toms River is o.k as a town but there aren't many nice hotels there..Pt.Pleasant is much nicer.

I'm sort of surprised there is not an option for Pet Friendly hotel in Lavallette with all of the motels on 35. Maybe there is an option in Seaside Park closer to Island Beach State park? Toms River doesn't seem really like a vacation spot to me. I guess it would depend on which Seaside hotel it was, i'd most definitely look at the room first if at all possible before purchase.

If you can stay in Seaside Park, you will do fine. When people think of Seaside, they think of the Heights where the boardwalk is. That area is no longer desireable. Also, the area of Seaside Heights that borders Ortley and Lavallette is fine. Just stay out of the Heights abutting the boardwalk and you'll be okay.

Tom's River isn't a seaside town. It's on the mainland and its shore area is bay.

I grew up going to Lavallette for 2 weeks every summer, and I still show up at my parents rental there for a beach fix and the Crab's Claw!

I too was going to suggest Point Pleasant, Ortley and Seaside PARK.

Okay, I'm a fool. I just looked at the website and its in Seaside PARK, not Seaside Heights. Its called the Charlroy. Thanks for mentioning that you guys, I woud have never noticed.

Seaside Park is much better than Heights and very close to IBSP!

We used to stay at the Howard Johnson's in Toms River (don't know if it's pet friendly). It was always fine and very reasonable. We liked getting away from the craziness right next to the ocean, so we came inland.

We stayed there once, too. It was one of those spur of the moment, let's stay overnight things, when DH and I were dating. The only vacancy in Seaside Heights was DISGUSTING so we moved inland! Actually, that's the last time I ever went to Seaside Heights!

Not to hijack the thread, but DH and I just went to Spring Lake on July 5 (sans kids...they were both away!). It was our first time there, and we fell in love with it! What a lovely town! We only went for the day, but it's our "go to" beach for day trips now!!

OMG! We made that mistake years back, Seaside Heights was awful, loud boom boxes, obnoxious dirty, drunk, filthy....the list goes on......and on......what a shame, many many moons ago, it was actually lovely......then the trash moved in and ruined it.......:eek:

:sad1: The one in Seaside Park is pet-friendly but not in the summer. I found one advertised as the "only pet friendly hotel on the seaside island" but it is in Seaside Heights, and right smack in the middle.
I think we will just have to pass on the beach this year. There are other pet-friendly places to stay but you can't have dogs on the beach during most of the day and I don't want to keep her in her crate the whole time we are there. We will just stick to camping trips until next yeat when she's older and I feel better about having someone stay home with her, or we can rent a pet-friendly house near the beach.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
