Tomfoolery at Whispering Canyon Cafe

Now I am bummed- we ate there last sept and it was the worst meal of our trip- bad food, NO fun antics. Just that stupid ketchup joke over. and over. and over. I guess we just got a bad shift of CM's!

We ate lunch there on our last trip and it was really funny. It was REALLY HARD to keep a straight face, especially when the waiter pretended to be really angry at us when we laughed. When i wanted some ketchup for something, we put the ketchup bottle on a table next to us with no ketchup and innocently claimed that we never got any ketchup. They brought us six bottles of it! And then when he was in the kitchen,we rotated the table and moved over one chair to the right! It was funny!
On my third trip we ate breakfast there and our server's name was MT. She claimed her last name was Wallet.(Get it?)She was really funny, and whenever we had anything to say, she pulled over a statue of a(maybe Italian?)chef, and said,"Talk to the Chef".
Now,on my second trip to disney, we ate dinner there in honor of my dad's b-day.When we said it was his b-day, they announced it to everyone else and brought over three of those ponystick things for my dad, older brother and I, and we rode around the resturaunt singing "Happy Birthday"!

I made the mistake of asking for a little bit, too. They brought out a Mason jar salt shaker filled with Coke. (And of course, I asked for a refill!) One of the guys in our group got the HUGE Mason jar, and that was hilarious![/QUOTE]

That happened to my brother. The guy also said if he didn't finish it he would be in big trouble!

This thread is making me sad I don't have an ADR for WCC for my next trip! It sounds like so much fun! The birthday cake thing is hilarious!!!

Although, it does sound like it would be more fun if you have a larger dining group... on this trip it will be just me and my boyfriend!

It definitely sounds like a place that my parents would LOVE! If I can ever get them to go to WDW with me, we are so eating at WCC!

When we ate there 2 years ago now, a little girl at a nearby table was having her birthday, so the server asked ALL little boys between 8 and 10 to come to her table and sing to her...my nephew did and he "appeared" to have a great time doing it...but, I am sure if it was on the other foot, he would have died a quick death..the server also asked the boys to give her a b-day kiss, well, she said no and the boys scattered:) We had a great time:)

I have this scheduled for lunch (1PMish), any chance we'll get to see any of these antics?

My teen son will die of embarrassment and my grandkids 6 & 8, will think this is the greatest place ever to eat-fun for all :rotfl:

Lunch is toned down somewhat, the ketchup is on your table already. If possible ask for MT, Bridget or Jeffro

Oh and after a while of waiting for your food they'll have you yell back to the kitchen "Hey Chef!! Where's our food?"

We have reservations for breakfast on our upcoming trip. Has anyone seen similar antics during breakfast hours? We went a few years ago just before they closed for the evening, but the wait staff did not do anything special. I'm sure they were just trying to get the rest of us out of there - can't really blame them! I am hoping that they will be a bit more interactive on our next visit for breakfast. Will there be antics or should I try to get a dinner reservation instead? Many thanks!

Every thing I saw, and I've seen most everything mentioned here, I saw either at breakfast or lunch. We have yet to eat dinner there. I think how much you get depends on who's working and/or how much you pay attention to the rest of the restarant.

I was under the impression that breakfast was quiet. We went for dinner 2 years ago and LOVED it! My kids still run around the house yelling KETCHUP!!:rotfl: We will back there in a little more than a week. Hoping we get a good server that's lots of fun! The lady we had last time was great! I wish I could remember her name. I plan on going back in our videos before we leave next week to try and catch her name tag. I taped her yelling ketchup after my son requested it. I've been practicing myself and have a pretty long, lond ketchup yell going. I may just beat the server to it when we ask for it!:lmao:

Breakfast isn't very quiet, Lunch is

I asked for a straw, and the server came out, threw about 20 at me and then proceeded to stick 8 straws in my hair sticking up like the statue of liberty and told me I had to keep them there all night, and that they would find out if I took them out (I wore them to Wishes and took them out right before bed).

Also they overheard my sister (who is the shy one of our group) say she was cold...they brought her out a full sized blanket and wrapped it around her....it was hilarious!

So, when is the best time to go and have it be most festive? Breakfast, lunch or dinner? When did you go and was it fun?

this has got me very excited about our ADR for September here Im not telling then to be hubby what they do here

We ate there last summer. My older son would ask for a shake refill. The server would bring him the tiny mason jar and my younger son a full sized one, even though he didn't ask for it. Before dinner was done, Blake had about six shakes in front of him and Grant had only tiny glasses - they thought this was a hoot. Does anyone know how you get put in jail there? On the same trip we saw a teenage girl eating through a little jail window. My older son wants this so bad when we go at Christmas. Has anyone else seen this or know how to get it?

I know one of the ways to get put in jail is to "steal" ketchup. I can't find the pictures, but when we were there several years ago, a guy at the table next to us was giving thier waiter a hard time. Instead of asking for ketchup he took a bottle from a nearby table when they had most of the bottles. When the waiter came by and saw the bottle he started calling him a thief. Next thing you know, they had this guy "tied" to his chair with a rope and had the jail house bars in front of him. His family was having a blast at this point.

OK now I'm worried. DH doesn't like any tomfoolery at mealtime (no happy birthday singing, silly hats, etc.) and I already made an ADR for Whispering Canyon. Is there a 'no fun' area of the restaurant that we might request when we get there?

When we were there in December, our waiter gave my DD a hard time for texting during dinner. It was hysterical because she's such a pro at texting without anyone noticing, but he caught her twice. She was a good sport about it, though. My dad (62) went with us that time, and he loved the place. He thought it was a lot of fun. :)

We always enjoy our dinner here, the most outrageous thing I think we've seen was a man who must have been giving his wife a hard time, was removed from his seat, chastised, and given one of the kids hobby horses. He then had to "ride" it not just through the restaurant, but throughout the lobby area, singing "you are my sunshine". So men, do not give your wife a hard time at dinner! :)

HA! I love it! My son will definitely try this on our next trip:rotfl2:
