Tomato Sauce on SS Range - Help!

I have a new Whirlpool stainless steel ceramic top electric range. I was heating spaghetti sauce the other day and when I lifted the pot lid, some of the tomato sauce spattered on the control panel of my new range. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until the next day. This part of the range looks like SS, but I'm not positive that it is. The control knobs are black plastic. I CANNOT get these spots off the control panel. I've tried dish detergent and water, Windex, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and a little vinegar - no luck. The stains will not budge - at all. It's as if they have become part of the control panel.

Since this range is less than six weeks old, it doesn't bode well for the future, does it? I mean, things like this happen. How the heck am I going to get these stains off this stove. :confused3

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Contact the manufacturer for suggestions? Anything in the owners manual? I don't have stainless steel. Sorry. Good luck.

I have stainless steel and I am the worlds messiest cook. Always splatter sauce. Try Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish, I get it at the grocery store in the cleaning supply section. Works wonders on mine.

Thanks. I'll look for that. However, I'm not convinced the control panel is actually stainless. I think it looks like stainless.

I dont like my SS range.
I cook. I use it. It gets messy.
I too can not get some things off, but my big problem area is the cooktop. Its a mess.

I've treid everything, and still there are faint rings around all the burners where stuff spills, boils over and etc. :confused3
It's silly to make a stove that you cant clean. I was even sillier for buying it.

Well, this is my first SS appliance, but not my first ceramic cooktop. I've had that for many years. I really don't have problems with the cooktop and, quite honestly, I think my problem with the control panel is that it is NOT stainless steel. I'm not sure what it is - maybe it's plastic and that's why the tomato sauce has stained it.

I am very annoyed. I agree with you. Why make make a stove that can't be cleaned. Stupid :sad2:

My last one was ceramic top and I hated it, too.
We just bought all SS apps thinking we were going to sell our house... then of course everything crashed (really hard here) so now I'm stuck with them LOL!

I use Fantastic to shine them. Works great and smells better than that polish stuff from home depot for SS.

hmmm...you might try a dab of bon ami cleanser. it's very gentle, but cleans great. i use it on my cooktop (which i think is either ceramic or glass) and it hasn't scratched yet. bon ami can be difficult to find-you may need to look at your local grocery store. wal-mart and k-mart don't usually carry it. don't know about target, we don't have one nearby. i hope it comes off!

The best cleaner I have found for stainless is Bar Keeper's Friend - - wonderful stuff, doesn't scratch and cleans up my pots really shiny like new...you might try that.

I tried Bon Ami, but no luck. I also tried a stainless steel cleaner and, again, no change. It's very frustrating. I called Whirlpool and they were no help at all. The woman I spoke to read from the Owner's Manual. I can read.

I don't know if this would help you or not since your part might or might not be stainless, but the very best thing I have ever used on stainless is at Ace Hardware and is called Sheila Shine (from Australia). Kind of expensive @ $10, but it really is amazing on stainless:

Here's a link to the info on the Ace website - I pick it up at the local store:

From the 5 star reviews on there, looks like someone else agrees with me! :cutie:

I will look for this product at Ace Hardware. Even if it doesn't get out these stains, it is probably a good product to have on hand for my ss appliances.

Thank you!

sheila shine, great name, lol. now if it were a hairspray, it would be an awesome name, lol.
