Our family is looking forward to visiting Tom Sawyer Island for the first time during our trip in November. I have a question though. Is taking the swaying barrel bridge the only way to get there? I walk with a cane so I'm wondering if this is difficult to cross? TIA

No, the only way to get there is on the raft from Frontierland.

I know we have to take the raft but in all of the pictures I've seen I see folks crossing this swaying type bridge. We don't have to cross this bridge to enter the island?

The barrel bridge is just part of many paths, you can avoid the barrel bridge with ease and meet up with your party on the other end

We did Tom Sawyer Island this time last week. It was the first time we had ever done it on many trips and even though it wasn't particularly exciting to me, I am glad that we finally went ahead and did it.

Access to the island is by the rafts. Once there, there are many paths and the barrel bridge is only on one section. The bridge itself is quite "bouncey". As others have said, you will not have to cross over it unless you choose to. I think that is true of any other portions of the path that one may feel uncomfortable with. For the most part, however, I think that the paths were pretty reliable. There were some slopes, stairs, etc., but nothing else as dramatic as the bridge.

Thanks everyone for your replies. So good to know that I can avoid that bouncy bridge. I was a little worried about it and my DGSs are really excited about going over there this time. :)

have fun, and if you can be on the first raft over (usually around 10am) have the boys look for a paint brush. if you find one you get a "front of the line" certificate for big thunder or splash mountain. it's really just a fast pass, but the certificate makes a great keepsake.

They would absolutely love that. Thanks for the great tip! :thumbsup2
