Tell me about Tom Sawyer Island...

Would this be a good stop for four adults? (20s and 50s)

How does the whitewash brush thing work? Are the brushes only there when the island opens or are they moved around throughout the day? If you find a brush and redeem it, are there limits on which attractions you can choose to skip the line on?

Thanks for any and all info... I'm getting on a plane in 7 hours to Orlando! :cool1:

I'm not really a fan of Tom Sawyer Island (I'm 23). Have no idea about the brush thing...heard of it but never really payed attention.

We went last fall. I wished we could have gotten our hr back!! I will never go again.

If you're looking for a bit of a break from the crowds and the lines, you should hop ov to TSI. It's a good place to take it easy for a bit.

It's a great stop for younger kids - they can explore the tunnels and play in the fort. Not much, if anything, for 4 adults. I'd skip it.

My husband and I enjoy it (we're both 39) but we go mainly for the kids. If we didn't have the kids with us, I'd probably skip it. If you've never been over there though, you might want to check it out just to say you did. It is fun to wander the paths, go over the barrel bridge, take the raft boat back and forth, etc. I wouldn't pick it over something else though.

I have no idea about the brush thing.

If you're going to escape the heat, regroup, I'd go--I love Aunt Polly's Landing for a snack. You're going during peak season, though, so if the lines are long to get there, I'd skip it as I see its primary purpose for adults as rest and relaxation.

I don't worth going to find the paintbrush, as I think (am not sure) they're only there when Tom Sawyer's Island first opens. If you do find one--DH and I did--they give you a FP to Splash Mountain. (And it was kind of a thrill to find it.)

CMs place paint brushes throughout the island, they aren't hidden but in plain sight. If you find one and turn it in to a CM you get a front of the line pass. I'm not sure if its just in the morning or throughout the day though.

That being said we've been to Disney 10 times and never gone to TSI. I guess we need to go just to say we've been there.

Maybe I'm odd, but I love Tom Sawyer's Island! I loved it as a child, I loved it as a teen, I loved it as a newlywed with no kids and I love it now with our boys. I dunno, it's just fun to pretend you're on an adventure and exploring. But then I am the type who really gets into the attractions. I like to have fun and act like a kid again! :yay: It's also a nice break from the hustle and bustle, and the rocking chairs are relaxing. We watched the afternoon parade from it once or twice which was different and neat.

But, I can see how a group of adults who don't get into things like that would not enjoy it at all... I have no idea about the brush thing either, we've never tried that.

What a great idea! I'm always looking for a way to escape the crowds, but never thought of watching the parade from TSI. What's the view like?

TIA! :)

The brushes are only out in the morning. Once they are found the CMs do not put them back out.

My dd5 enjoyed TSI this past June. I had never been before. It's a been there, done that place now.

It actually wasn't bad. I mean of course things are going to be blocked and you won't see details since you're not right up front, but I remember being surprised at how much we could see. It was neat to see it from a different perspective too. If you're only going to see the parade once, obviously this isn't the spot to watch it though. HTH! :)

I love it too! :goodvibes We went for the first time on our trip in 2004. We had never been over there and had a great time running around the tunnels and the island. It probably helped that we only saw 2 other people the whole time we were over there. It's strange to be so secluded but look through the trees and see pieces of Disney! We didn't have to wait in a line as it was the "off" season.

I believe when you find the brush you get a pass for Splash Mountain or BTRR, not any ride you want.

My experience with TSI was reverse from most I guess. I really didn't like it as a kid, but it turned out to be a surprise favorite when I went with my boyfriend last year. We really enjoyed meandering along the paths and exploring the caves. It was also relaxing sitting on the rocking chairs just watching the crowds across the river. Too bad Aunt Polly's wasn't open since it probably would have been a great relaxing lunch.

My DH and I explored TSI on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. That was many years ago but I still remember the caves and one of my favorite pictures from that trip was of DH sitting on a rock on TSI with the Haunted Mansion in the background. It can be a great place to take pix without having 2,000 strangers in the photo!!

The kids liked it, dh took the boys and I took dd and we went on a brush hunt. We were on our nextels it was funny. A cast member told the guys where a brush was. :cheer2:
