Tokyo Parade in thunderstorm

Eh, personally I see that as a bit ridiculous. I'm wondering if it was a sudden down pour right as the parade was starting. The damage that could be done to the floats and costumes due to heavy rain like that is big. Similarly, the chance of face characters losing their make-up was great. I rather they keep things looking wonderful than have a parade in torrential rain. Part of me hopes someone at the head of Disney sees this and makes sure it doesn't happen again.

Sorry, I see it as a dumb move. You can hear thunder in the background which means there is lightening in the area. It's not safe, it's stupid, and simply not needed. The CMs are WAY more important then the show.

Plus, the possible damage done to the costumes, wigs, and floats will just cost money and time to fix. What a waste.

Given that there's no parade music and no other performers on foot, it looks to me like they were caught out by a sudden storm. It looks like all the 'foot' performers have left the parade to safety, but the floats have to continue along the route to get backstage. The characters that are left are the ones that cannot get down easily, so they just have to ride it out...

Edit: If I recall correctly, doesn't TDL have a special Rainy Day Parade? The fact that they do (if it's true), and this wasn't it, also suggests that maybe they just got caught out this time.

I guess there must be an assessment somewhere along the line of the risk of keeping the characters on the floats and getting them backstage ASAP, versus trying to get them all down off the floats in the middle of the park - from a wet and slippery float, in full costume, and without whatever stairs/equipment they normally use.

I know my last Disney World trip was quite awhile ago but I was very impressed that the night I went to see both Spectromagic and Wishes there was a bad storm with heavy rain but Disney still put on both the parade and Fireworks show between downpours, it was quite awesome and I was extremely impressed by it! I was very much expecting them to out right cancel it but they put it on anyway(only when it wasn't raining of course).

All the parade "security" guards have raincoats. So if it was a surprise, where did the raincoats come from???? :confused3

I always thought Disney had this awesome weather tracking system so that they would know if they should cancel a parade or show due to weather. :confused3

To me, it looks like they still put the parade on, even though it was raining.

I do feel bad for the performers. I hope they have some type of incidental insurance should something have happened. OR at least they should have be given umbrellas.

Man, I would have hated to be the costume and float crew. Having to dry the fur costumes and dry the floats.

But in true Disney form, the performers looked cheerful and happy. And stayed in character. WOW...amazing.

It kinda looks like a scattered freek storm...maybe it was going on and off thus the other cast having ponchos? It stopped raining completely by the end of the video. I give the cast credit for really acting the part, mogli from the jungle book was pretending to scoop water off the float, very cute on the actors part

Aurora and her Prince were hiding under a part of the float and Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore in their upturn umbrella kind of fitted in. LOL

This isn't an one off either.

But in that rain, the performers seem to be wearing plastic coverings over their costumes.

Last December this happened at MVMCP when we where there. It was not raining when the parade started then it just opened up and poured.

At the very last moment they pulled all the horses out for safety reasons and when the floats started down Main Street they slowed and the characters got off at Casey's.
