Tokyo Disneyland Undermined Me :'( - Back to WDW!

Sorry, I'm from Florida but noticed this thread and had to post :p

People from Australia come here and go to Wal-Mart....on purpose??? :faint:

Anyway, I've been to Tokyo twice, and WDW my whole life.

Both times I went to Tokyo I didn't stay on-site at the Disney area hotels, and really, it doesn't matter, because the train system is so awesome, you're pretty much guaranteed to be there within 15-20 minutes from many parts of the city.

And, there is SO MUCH else to see and do in Tokyo, it's now my new favorite place in the world. I'd live there if it was relatively easy.

Last year I took a co-worker who had never been outside of the U.S. before and he was a bit worried about the culture, language differences, but he absolutely LOVED it and also can't wait to go back.

I speak a whole 3 words of Japanese probably and never felt that we needed anything more than that to get around :)

Hope that helps!

You don't have to apologise, we like it when we get some international visitors down here in the ANZAC section :)

I too love Japan. I've been twice and am itching to get back. I'm surprised that the OP found the cost difference between WDW and TDL to be so big. We stayed at the Hilton Tokyo bay for our Disney parts of our trips and found it to be perfect. So close, on the monorail line and not that expensive at all (I think we paid $150AUD/night?). Food isn't more expensive then here, cheaper if I recall correctly and flights certainly are cheaper.

We did splurge on one night at the Mira Costa and it was AMAZING! Nothing like staying IN a Disney theme park. We would have loved to have stayed more, but we were happy to get a glimpse at how the other half live :)

And Japan, oh I love Japan. Have I said that already? :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

The biggest cost were the tours we were thinking of doing. We wanted to some day/overnight trips and I think the cost of the guided tours was very expensive. When I go overseas my planning tends to spiral and more money gets spent than initially anticipated. I get 'inspired' by doing things and I keep adding. So I'm under strict orders that next year it has to be 'affordable'. I'm ok with spending the entire year saving my money for the trip. My poor partner wants to eat out occasionally. A Japan trip, for me, couldn't be a budget trip.

I've traveled on my own around Europe and there's a bit of English spoken many places on the continent. I think I just had doubts as family has always visited Japan and said you shouldn't do it outside a partly guided tour as the language is a major barrier.

No it doesn't :sad1::sad1:

tehe.

How did you find Tokyo Disneyland Park compared with MK?

You don't need to do guided tours of Japan. We were clueless and were able to get around fine. We spent time all over Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Disney by ourselves and really didn't have any problems. In total we spent 2 weeks in Japan and I think it cost about the same as a previous two week trip to the usa where we had free accommodation for 10 days.

I'll chip in just to keep tempting you one day. Zilch language skills - we were fine. Only minor stress where a bit of language skills might have helped was an extreme (and very uncommon) weather event but it was all fine in the end. Travelled to Tokyo, Kyoto and an little more off the beaten track, Kanazawa. TDL is great. Disneysea is totally amazing with its theming. Disneyland is great too and equal to the MK/DL with its own variations - and the cultural differences are fun! We did a 2 week trip for $5k for 2 plus 1 some of the time). But no we didn't do many guided trips-no need.

I have so many plans now - I want to do everything simultaneously!

::yes:: That's why we haven't been to Europe yet, there's too much there to do, on top of the fact that I want a stop over in Hong Kong so I can do 2 Disney parks in the one trip

Haha. I was trying to wing that one too on our trip to Europe this year Bec! It didn't work out but another time!!!!! I think three Disney's are enough for one couple in one trip!!!

Nonsense! That's crazy talk! The only way 5 Disney parks in one trip wouldn't be enough is if Shanghai Disney has opened!
