I have an ADR for Tokyo Dining booked for our trip in may, and after all the searching on these boards I haven't been able to find any reviews on the restaurant! Anyone who has eaten here, PLEASE post some reviews! I love sushi, but if the restaurant is not gonna be worth my while I would like to get another ADR booked before too long. Thanks so much!

Are you on the dining plan?

You may want to know that the sushi menu isn't covered by the dining plan. DDP guests can get sushi as part of a combo platter on the regular menu.

We are not big sushi eaters, but we love Hibachi. Loved Teppon Edo (twice).

Had a really good meal there last summer. Place was crowded (Illuminations time, you can see it from the restaurant) and we had to wait for a table even with an ADR,, but the service was wonderful in spite of the crowds. No complaints, you'll enjoy it!

Disney's website as well as the DIS restaurant guide both said that it is on the dining plan as a table service credit...did you just go there this year and they wouldn't accept sushi with the dining plan?

If it isn't on the dining plan, not a big deal. We actually planned on paying oop for one meal, so we can just do this one instead of our breakfast. The prices on sushi look fairly reasonable!

I am not a sushi eater, but I am thinking of an ADR here for DH. Do they stil offer tempura entrees?
TIA

We have a late lunch @ Tokyo Dining on our arrival day every trip. Our favorites are the Dynamite and Volcano rolls. Great service and atmosphere.

Our Ratings of Tokyo Dining:
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity per serving: C
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: B
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: A
. . . staff helpfulness: C
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: The seating is at "regular" tables versus hibachi grill
tables or sitting on the floor. The sushi is well above average,
but for those on DDP, it is not covered. There is a good selection
of dishes Americanized to suit guests not enamored with Japanese
food. Viewing of Wishes from the limited number of window
seats is quite good.

It is not that they don't include sushi on the dining plan. The separate sushi menu is not included in the dining plan (the one where you order pieces and rolls). You can order sushi off the main menu as part of a platter and have it covered on the dining plan. The restaurant itself accepts the plan but it doesn't cover ordering from the sushi menu.

Granted, it would be very difficult for them to try to state what type and amount of sushi pieces or rolls would constitute a dining plan "entree" so it's not surprising they do it this way.

I found it to be meh at best.. but I am a snob having lived in Japan for three years and disliking any Americanization of the cuisine.

if you like what is served at higher end palces in the States it wil be about that quality.

Did this rule come start last year? We ate there in 2008 and 2009 and both times were offered the sushi menu on the dining plan. We couldn't order any of the individual rolls but we could choose either the sushi combination or sushi deluxe as an entree (there were two to choose from).

This was the sushi deluxe I chose:

The platter I had was really good and I was hoping to order it again this year.

You ordered a combination platter, that's allowed on DDP. Individual sushi orders are not. I've never been there so I don't know how the menus are set up but I did mention you can get sushi as part of a platter. You just can't order rolls or assemble your own pieces, you have to order their combinations.

I'm interesting in hearing more about this place also since we have it on our possibles list. Every comment I am getting is to go to Teppan Edo instead of Tokyo Dining for Japanese food, but in my opinion, they are 2 totally different places with different menus. I want to try Tokyo Dining for the sushi.

So the way I am reading it is that the a la carte sushi is not part of the dining plan. That you would have to order a combo meal as your entree.

But, what if you are on the DxDP and an appetizer is included. Would the a la carte sushi rolls be considered an appetizer here?

1) Sushi is not an appy.
2) There is a separate list of appy's.
3) Sushi costs too much to be an appy on DxDP.
4) On Premium and Platinum, I have heard of sushi being covered.

Tokyo Dining is a must do for us on our trip in August. Both my daughter and husband LOVE sushi. My problem is trying to decide when to make an ADR. DD is enrolled in one of the youth programs taking place from 8:30-11:30 so I'm thinking after that is finished it would be time to eat. Are we nuts to head from The Seas with Nemo & Friends area to Tokyo Dining in the heat of the day to stuff ourselves or would it make more sense to make an ADR one evening prior to Illuminations?

DD is also wanting to eat at the Garden Grill so that will definitely have to be in the evening.

Does anyone know if there is a sushi bar here that I can sit by myself without a reservation?

Is this a good solo restaurant? I am trying to decide eating here by myself or at Kona Sushi Bar.
