toilet paper

i was watching a commercial for those flushable toilet wipes, i don't know the brand name, but it's a bunch of guys sitting around talkig about .. flushable toilet wipes. anyways, the guy says that they disintegrate in water, "just like toilet paper." this intrigued me. does toilet paper really disintegrate in water?

The Scott's 1,000 sheet roll seems to disintegrate. I like it ...no clogging up the pipes. Dh says too thin.

Toilet paper is made to break down so it does not clog the pipes.

On the other hand, Kleenix is not made to break down, and that is why you are not supposed to flush kleenix, you are supposed to put it in a waste basket.

My, aren't Ijust a bundle of information?

The only time Kleenex breaks down in fluids is when I have a really gross head cold.

I didn't know that about Kleenex. But, really, isn't it all biodegradable? It's just a question of how long it takes to break down?

Colored paper/tissue is apparently not good for plumbing either if flushed. Not sure how it would hurt, but apparently has something to do with the color die in the paper itself. Not enviro-friendly. We only purchase white paper anyway, but still interesting to know.

Toilet paper dissolves after being in water for awhile. I've heard many people say that Charmin is no good for the septic system but it's all we used at my parents house, had the septic pumped once in the 15 years that I lived there. The septic guy said that everything looked great. I think my dad may have had it pumped once more in the past few years, he also reinstalled a section of the leach field because there were just too many tree roots growing through it.

You don't want to flush baby wipes though, our septic at our new (new to DH & I) house was full of baby wipes when we moved in, the apparently don't dissolve well
