Hi all,

I am *this* close to booking a few nights at HNY for late January as the current deal is really good and we enjoyed our previous January trip so much.

The difference is this time we'll have a 21 month old Mouseketeer in tow.

Am I remembering it all with rose tinted glasses? Or will we be fine if we keep her bundled up well and our fingers crossed that it's dry? We're not expecting to get lots done. Just have a nice time and meet some characters and ride the rides DD is allowed on.

What I like about winter is the hours are short and it's dark early so we can all watch Dreams etc as she'd never make it until 9 or 10pm for the show.

Am I crazy considering it?

Hello! I don't think you are crazy!

We took our 18mo a few winters ago when it was bitter - in fact if you recall it was the winter that was so bad with snow that the Eurostar and flights were grounded. It did cross my mind that we were crazy to push on and drive there in the snow but we had saved all year for the trip and well... We are a bit mad!

It was cold. Like very very cold.

Some tips I can share are make sure that you have a buggy with decent wheels that might cope with snow/ice if necessary.

Invest in some thermals for your little one - I got some from mothercare and they were great.

Invest in a decent footmuff - we used a wallaboo one which kept him toasty.

Take regular breaks - use the baby center as much as you need - one day we must have popped in about 8 times to warm up and have a warm milk or snack.

I don't know if you are planning on staying on site? We were at the Cheyenne which meant on the coldest days we could easily pop back for a nap and a warm up - we rented a kettle from reception and took supplies for tea and hot chocolate.

Keep an eye on your receipts - everything we brought had a voucher for a free hot drink on it!

Honestly I would do it again in a heartbeat - we will always remember that trip - the Christmas decs were magical in the cold and snow!

Go for it!
We always visit during the colder months and have done since our boys were one and three.

As long as she's bundled up and you have regular hot chocolate breaks you'll have a blast! :cool1:

The colder months are much quieter in the parks, and I see lots of little ones all wrapped up in ski suits, hats, gloves and boots to keep them warm when we are in the parks in winter. As your staying in HNY you will only be a short walk away from your hotel and room for a bit of an afternoon break to warm up.

Also consider the first week of January as all the Christmas decorations are still up and they run the Christmas version of Deams! and Christmas Wishes (the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Main Street). The park looks so fantastic when decorated for Christmas. This years Christmas season is from 9th November 2014 to 7th January 2015.

We went just before Christmas a few years ago and it was awesome! My tip would be to prepare for it to be very, very cold and use thermals, snow suit, snow boots etc as previously mentioned. It was snowing while we were there which added to the magic! Go for it!
