Toddler with oxygen and tube feed

Question about taking a toddler that is oxygen dependent and requires tube feed. We typically use a stroller with a large basket that easily holds her and all of her equipment. We put the oxygen in the basket and I have the big mom hook for her feeding backpack and usually put her monitor on the canopy so I can keep an eye on her levels. We were going to rent a stroller from one of the outside company’s and use as a wheelchair to save room in the car for the trip. Would a regular stroller work or would we need to rent a wheelchair type stroller? I’m not sure if there are weight limits for the baskets and I certainly wouldn’t want to overload a rented stroller but I am not sure on the size and comfort of the larger wheelchair type. She will be 2 at the time of our trip so she is still comfy in a regular size stroller.

May I suggest you chose a few stroller renting companies and call them directly. They would be able to "possibly" answer your questions. You really don't want damage to any necessary medical equipment.

What brand/model stroller do you usually use? Many of the popular ones are available from one vendor or another with some searching. Or something similar. I don’t think there is need for a larger stroller, your DD might be uncomfortable because it is sized/intended for a larger child.

Enjoy your vacation!

We use a graco, I’m not sure the model but it has a HUGE basket. It’s a full size stroller but takes up a lot of room in the car. I’m hoping that our oxygen DME will rent us a portable concentrator but we will also probably take tanks just in case. I guess I will do some searching for a similar model to rent. I have even considered buying one off amazon and having it shipped to resort and “gifting” it at the end of our trip.

I think @redberyl has a child with a lot of medical equipment. She may have input about a stroller to carry it all. You can also leave anything in First Aid at each park, just remember to pick it up on your way out each day.

Enjoy your vacation!

And remember that First Aid typically closes before fireworks - so plan accordingly if you chose to leave supplies there.

sorry to disagree but I think they are opened whenever guest are in the park. I know I have gone in during DAH at the MK

Could you get a storage thing to put on top of your car to hold your stroller? It might be cheaper than buying a new stroller, and then you'd be able to take your own stroller everywhere and have space in the car.

I thought about that as well. We have a cargo carrier but I don't believe it will hold the stroller. I think I will make some calls to some rental companies and see what their thoughts are.

When my daughter was small and we used tanks we used a double stroller (side by side style) and put her tank and suction in the empty seat, then used a large clip (like a mommy hook) for her feeds. They recently changed size guidelines for strollers so if you get a double make sure its one that fits the new guidelines. Now that shes older she has her own medical stroller that is real sturdy and we just hang her feeds and concentrator from the back, everything just slips over the handles and i have an organizer that also hangs off the back for storing supplies. Just have to be careful we dont overload it or it tips backwards when she stands.Weve never used tanks in the parks because she needs a concentrator to fly. The concentrator is much more convenient andceasier to carry around. The batteries are heavy but smaller than the tanks, and we are in the parks for pretty short stretches so we just recharge the concentrator during rest breaks. We rent the concentrator from our regular dme supplier. Insurance wont cover it but its a lot cheaper gettingbit from our dme than through outside companies

First Aid in the parks is open past fireworks. I have needed them after the Goodnight Kiss and found help available.

I would have to think if you contacted Disney they would give exceptions to the size guidelines.

The vast majority of the rental doubles that I looked at this spring when the rules changed were already within the allowed dimensions, so that shouldn't be a problem finding a properly-sized rental. (The most common rental appears to be a CityMini or CityMiniGT.)

OP - since you are looking to rent anyway, a double is a great idea and will have plenty of space for her needs.

Enjoy your vacation!
