Toddler Sleeping arragements

We'll be going to Disney in October with my DD who will be 28 months at the time. She currently still sleeps in a crib but is too big for the pack 'n plays that they provide in the rooms. I was going to ask for bed rails but was still concerned about getting DD to sleep in a regular bed by herself when she is not used to it at home, especially one so high off the ground.

What have others done in this situation? Do you just share the bed with them or use something like a roll away bed?

wow she must be big huh? Does she sleep curled up? My dd is over 40oinches and almost 4 and could sleep in her brothers pack n play if she wanted to. DS will be 25mos when we go and he will sleep in the pack n play , he naps in one at home no problem at all.

I don't know. My daughter was a week from being 3 last time we went and had no problem at all in the pack-n-play. Most of the resorts don't do roll-away beds. Perhaps she can sleep with a sibling??

what we do since we are a family of four is push the bed up against the wall and then i slept with DS on the other side so if he rolled over he would just roll into me.
Some resorts have the roll away beds (trundle beds) under the big beds and they are just right on the floor.

We stayed at CSR in May with my almost 3 year old and she slept in the queen bed fine. My husband would sleep with her until she went to sleep. She on fell out the first night and was fine after that. She liked to sleep long ways across the bed. She asked for a big bed when we got home because she said she was a big girl now.

When we stayed at VWL last January, we requested a full-sized crib and got a really nice one. It had metal bars, wheels and a nice-sized mattress. DS slept great in it. I am not sure if all of the resorts offer them, but it could not hurt to call and ask.

The other option you might want to consider is getting a toddler Aerobed. They're comfy, easy to inflate and very portable. The only issue is whether your DD would be freaked to not be in a crib (or, on the other hand, would be psyched with the freedom of NO BARS!!! ).

You have time between now and then to introduce her to a new big girl bed. Perhaps that'll be the best solution.

My son was about the same age on his first Disney trip. I know, at that point, he'd outgrown the manufacturers height/weight limit on the Pack n Play we owned, so I wouldn't have counted on the ones at Disney being safe for him. That was a few years ago though, so I don't know what the limits are on current Pack n Plays or even how old the models are that are in the various resort rooms. That would be my concern with putting a toddler/preschooler in one though.

That being said, we got a bunk bed room at AKL and requested two bed rails to sorta create an almost-crib out of the lower bunk. Then draped the top bed's comforter down over the side to create a privacy curtain so he could fall asleep easier and we could stay up at watch TV, etc. He did still manage to fall out of the bed once during the week though. And it's a hard floor.

Thanks, you've all provided some good ideas to think about. My daughter is not super big, just a normal size toddler but I just figured at about 26lbs she wouldn't fit into a pack 'n play anymore or she would be pushing the bottom of it into the floor which didn't seem too comfortable. I've never seen the pack 'n plays at Disney though. I might see what the crib offering is since we'll be staying at WL and it sounds like they offer some nice ones. If all else fails we can just put one of us in the bed with her and push it agains the wall. It's hard because she's in that in between phase of growing out of the baby beds but not quite ready for the bigger ones.

On other vacations (not to Disney) we've ended up just putting her in our bed for the trip but inevitability we have trouble getting her down in her own bed for a few nights once we're back home. I was hoping to avoid that on this trip.

DD did just fine on the bed with bed rails, she was about 22 months on our last trip. I don't even think she went near the edge of the bed! (I did check on her a LOT!) She's in her big girl bed @ 25 months, and has been for a few months, and we haven't had a problem.

I can't say this for sure, but I swear the pack n plays at Disney are smaller than the one I have at home. My DD slept in one in January and she was 28 mths and she was touching at the ends. I don't think she is unusally tall or anything. This time I have a little blow-up mattress for her to use. If that doesn't work, we'll have to have her sleep with me.

Mine slept in a regular bed just fine by then so I did nothing different. But if it makes you feel better get the rails. the floor is carpeted so if she happened to roll out she may not even wake up! ( my DS did that one time, rolled out and continued to sleep, found in beside the bed in the Am)

DS was 2.5 yrs old on our last trip. He was about 35 in and 24.5 lbs at the time and had no problems sleeping in the PnP. He was so exhausted at night that he probably could have slept on a rock.

Not to hijack, but I am planning on my 26 month old using the PnP next month when we go. He sleeps in one at my MIL's just fine, so I think we'll be okay. But if we get there and find for whatever reason that he doesn't fit, can we then request bed rails, even though I didn't ask for them in advance? Or should I request both now, just in case? He'd be sharing with his 5 year old brother, so I worry he could fall out since he's not in the middle of the bed.

Yes, they are most definitely smaller than the one I have at home. Our DD is 27 months and we just moved her to a big girl bed because she climbed out of the crib. She transitioned just fine and loves her new bed. IMO, pack n plays are not designed for toddlers to sleep in for any length of time. They are small and not comfortable. There really is not even a supportive mattress; it's just a pad. I would never expect my toddler to sleep in it for more than one night. Were staying in a 2 bedroom unit at BWV in November and DD will sleep on the pull out in the studio side. If we were in a reg room, I would get bed rails and give her her own bed.

We have rented cribs in the past from A Baby's Best Friend, abbf.com. The first two trips, DD was 11 months and 16 months, and she slept in the PNP. The third time, we rented a crib for her when she was 26 months and one for DS who was 6 months. In December, we're renting a crib for him and getting bed rails for her. I had heard that the Disney cribs were flimsy, but I see a previous poster said she had a good experience. I just knew that if I wanted a good night's sleep, DD had to be comfortable. LOL. It worked out great for all of us.

This time DS will sleep with DH, and DD (16 mo) will sleep with me. I'll either get a bed rail or push the bed against the wall.
