LOL sounds so funny to say! I swore I would never use one but now after having him I cant imagine losing him! So needless to say.. im going to be "one of those" and use one in Disney.. anyone recommend any certain ones?

I used a Goldbug brand monkey leash with my son. It actually is like a little backpack for him. Has a little zipped pocket in the monkey's back where he carried his fruit snacks. I picked it up at Wal-Mart and just last week saw someone paying for one so they do still carry them. We used it the past 2 years. I had a different type the year before that and he had it broken by the time we made it 1/2 way up the street into HS. So the Goldbug one is pretty tough.

Hey I'm with ya. Before my 2 year old i was like "thats crazy". now I dont care what anyone says. My toddler loves it first off. It gives him a sense of comfort in walking without holding our hands, and secondly with all the people, its the safest thing to do without coddling him next to us the whole time, which isnt fair to him.

The backpack ones, definitely.

People who scoff just don't understand that you're doing it because you LOVE your child and you KNOW your child.

My mom used harnesses with me and my brother, and we had a grand time wherever we went. Now, was I able to use one with DS? No. He liked to mess around with it, which resulted it in looking like I was hauling him around against his will. He was leaning into it, having fun, or running to the end to see what that would feel like...it was embarrassing when people would see the end result (me trying to get him "back" instead of what he had just done gleefully), and it was painful for me, so we had to figure out different ways of reigning him in. Oh well!

I got on from walmart for my nephew last year as well. I think it was the same one you are talking about. He loved it. And yes, I would call it a harness rather than a leash. lol.

lol yes but leash is so fun.. think my facebook status will be "trying to pick out a leash for my son" lol

Go for the harness style, instead of the wrist one. And, anybody mocks you, let them know "Better leashed than lost!" ;)

I remember all the things I said before I was a parent! :lmao:This was one of my past "no, nos" until....I had my daughter who was wild and crazy in the womb and worse on the other side! Never say never! LOL!

in the UK we call these reins - like what you put on a horse. We had the monkey from Walmart for our DD when she was 2, and then she passed it onto DS - the monkey has done quite a few trips!

Honestly I didn't think twice about getting one of these, how easy is it for you to get distracted at Disney and let go of your child for a couple of seconds, in that time they are gone. I know I would rather have them attached to me! My DD was never a runner either, but my DS wooo! that kid can move. He is very unpredictable too and one minute is just stood there and the next he is off!

leash, reins whatever you call it I call it peace of mind! :)

I use one with my 2 year old son and my husband hates it!! He actually threw the first one away and I just went back and bought another. I never would have even considered one with my oldest daughter but with him it is necessity. I got a lotof flack from both my husband and dad for it in WDW but it gives me a peace of mind. I just bought the monkey one form Wal Mart and he loves it in fact he calls it his best buddy.

We had 2 of these for our twins, and used them as a harness (never tried to use the wriststrap). http://www99.epinions.com/reviews/The_First_Years_Elmo_Harness_and_Handstrap

They loved them, and they were very lightweight (consider the heat with a backpack or monkey). We stopped using them when we lost one, and they faught over who got to wear the remaining one. Using them was the only way I could take my twins toddlers for neighborhood walks by myself without using a stroller.

We've got the Monkey one from Target, he kinda looks like Curious George. DD likes it! :)
