Please if you have small children do NOT let wear those shoes on escalators. Their small feet in those shoes for some reason get caught and they can have severe foot injuries. I have seen several accidents reported in the news and there was another today. This is not a fluke accident. Like I said I have seen several reports of little ones getting hurt!!! Today's Little girl was on her way to Disney! Please beware of the dangers. Here is the link. I hope I can post it!

Please be carefull. This is horrible!

Shoes with laces are just as dangerous. I remember all the warnings about shoe laces and escalators when I was a kid. Or the floppy part of a flip flop. Or anything dangling, really. Or children with a free hand. Kids under 5 getting a hand stuck in an escalator is one of the biggest groups of escalator injuries. Over 2000 kids are hurt on escalators every year and I'm sure that Crocs were only involved in a handful of those incidents. If you're going to worry about injuries on an escalator, I think the warning should be more to generally avoid escalators with young children - not necessarily to avoid Crocs on young children.

Thanks for posting the warnings. Appreciate it with having two croc wearing kids.

:thumbsup2

And let's not forget the warnings about strollers on escalators! Yet I see people do this EVERY time I go to the mall.

I guess if the child in the stroller was wearing Crocs, it would still be considered a "Croc incident" :confused3

Seriously, kids and escalators are not always a good mix. Just be careful no matter what shoes your child is wearing.

hence the reason we use steps when ever we can. We love our croc/frocs and just about any shoe can get stuck, watch out for loose laces and such. But thanks for the reminder for newer parents out there who dont' know about the issues.

I think any escalator is dangerous. This is why you see the emergency stop button on the exit on some. 20 years ago while on a high school trip to NY at Macy's, my sister got her shoe(rebook tennis shoes) stuck in their old wooded escalator. It totally ripped her shoe apart. Luckily it did no damage to her toes. They took her straight up to the shoe dept to get her a new pair of shoes. No law suit needed. Got a pair of brand new shoes. Everybody no matter what the age has to be careful. But I thought at the time, this could only happen to my sister. :goodvibes

If you're able to do so, I reccomend just carrying small children on the escalator for as long as you physically can. It's simply the best way to avoid these types of injuries. The elevator's an even better idea.

Unfortunately, all the warnings in the world won't make up for for good old common sense, with a dash of parental supervision!

Accidents can happen with any type of shoe so I'm always nervous when we get on an escalator with ds. I always watch his feet and stress to him to stay away from the edge. We also try to use regular stairs whenever possible. I hope that little girl's foot fully heals and she won't suffer any permanent damage from this incident.

Years ago when I was in high school, I got my foot stuck in an escalator at a mall. I was wearing a pair of Keds, and for some reason I was dragging the rubber side of the sole along the edge of the escalator as I was riding. Well, at some point my foot got caught, but the escalator immediately stopped. They had to reverse the escalator to get my foot out. Luckily there wasn't any damage to my foot, only a big hole in my shoe.

So it's just not Crocs or toddlers that this can happen to...

Yep!

The child was badly injured, released and told to stay off of her feet, yet the family continued on to Disney World. :confused3 The child's toe was severed to the bone and you go to Disney World? It's absolutely ridiculous. That family is another accident and lawsuit waiting to happen.

Last summer we were coming up the escalator by Soaring in Epcot, my 8 year old dd was on the step behind me. As we were getting off, she started screaming that her croc was stuck. Before I could even respond she was off the escalator, but then screaming that it ate her croc! It literary took a chunk out of the top of her croc. Fortunately, it totally missed her toes! There was a CM right there and she asked us to stop and fill out an accident report. Her manager came out and said this had been a common thing on the escalators at Disney and Crocs. They gave her a certificate to pick a new pair of Disney crocs and she was thrilled. But now we always pick our kids up if we use and escalator and they are wearing crocs. Fortunately for her, I was more upset than she ever was. I just kept thinking how lucky she was that her toes were not touched.

Frankly, I think this is much ado about nothing...the same thing can happen no matter WHAT footwear a person is wearing. I've seen it happen to someone wearing regular sneakers. The more important thing is to teach your children not to put their toes near the part of the escalator where the steps meet.
