Haven't tried one of those, but we did have a backpack type of carrier for DD. She loved it, it gives them a little independence but still has them attached to you.

It also has them up higher to get a better view.

We recently had this conversation in this thread....

Check it out!

At 9 months my dd LOVED the backpack! I found a front pack was 1. too hot and 2. she couldn't see as much.

In a backpack your child can see right over your shoulder above everyone. Plus dh was more willing to wear the backpack than the front:p

I am also a BIG supporter of the sling! I used that at night so she could snuggle in and sleep.

That second link you left looked awfully bulky. I think that would annoy me. The backpack and sling are relatively flat. Sling makes a great pillow in the stroller.

I have to agree with jldriscoll's DH. I dont know how long my back would handle an extra 20 or so pounds attached to my front.

I used a backpack for years in the malls. It was great to have the younguns somewhere where they couldnt pull things off shelves.

I dont know if I would be able to do a backpack at Disney with all the on and off needed for getting on rides. Maybe the best place for one would be EPCOT.

When my girls were that age, they had no problem being in a stroller at Disney because there was tons to see. Plus the stroller was a great place to stow stuff.

We didn't find this to be a problem and we only spent 2 hours of a 7 day trip at EPCOT. Most of our time was spent in MK and we did just fine.

I bought the carrier from OSA and didnt like it (the first link you posted) I then found something called a hip hammock and it is a DREAM!!!

www.hiphammock.com. They are pricey.... around 50 bucks but I feel it was well worth it. Esp at WDW. I could carry my 1 1/2 year old most of the day in the thing!

We bought the denim one, no fleece... wash well... I dont know what I would do without it!!

SLINGS are the easiest of all. They are a non-contraption.

You can wait in line, get on the ride, sit down, then easily slip baby out if you want. They require no more space than a shawl.

Baby can sit forward, to the side, or sleep. Sleeping on the go is important. And use the stroller to push your diaper bag around.

Tips:
Be sure the baby's bottom is ABOVE you belly-button when using. This allows weight to be distributed evenly - no back ache.

Choose a cool color and insist your husband try it. Mine refused with first child, but became a "spokesman" with the next 3.

Practice before leaving. Put baby in then begin walking. Like at the mall...That's how they get used to it.

Avoid slings with lots of extra padding. The cushiness isn't worth the bulkiness.

Look in consignement stores.

Have a great trip - good luck.

If you are deciding between these 2 I would go with the EZ Pack over the magenta colored one. The EZ Pack folds down small enough to carry, whereas the other one stays that same huge size due to the plastic insert that makes up the seat. So packing the EZ pack would be much easier and less bulky. I have used it for very short periods of time with my DD who weighs close to 30lbs. It takes a little getting used to though and didn't come with any sort of directions/instructions.

If you think you are going to be holding her anyway and do not want the bulk of a backpack carrier, this should at least make it a little easier on you as it puts some weight on your shoulders vs your arms having so much weight on your arms.

definitely test prior to trip!

My back wore out quickly with a front carrier, while the backpack carries the weight on your hips/legs.

We are *huge* fans of a backpack -- my 2 yr. dd has "issues" when it is her younger sister (6 mo.) in it instead of her. We got a lightweight Baby Trend one at BRU - simple to use and lightweight. I use it weekly for a local Gymboree class - I'm chasing around the 2 yr. old with the 6 mo. old in the pack.

Major bonus: traveling in airports with backpack. Once you are through security, you will have hands free to deal with "stuff", and child is out of the way of all those heavy carry-ons swinging at their level in stroller. Folds flat for easy fit in overhead compartment.

Can you borrow one to test?
