Toddler asthma..just diagnosed

On Staurday night DD3.5 woke up at 0200 crying and drenched in sweat. DH and I thought it was night terrors....could still be.
We were at our trailer at the lake and brought her onto our bed to try and calm her down. After crying for a while she started acting strange. I noticed it seemed like she was having a hard time catching her breath and then she started throwing up phlegm. She was hitting her cheekls saying they hurt and then her throat. I thought something was off and told DH to take her to the local hospital.

I stayed back with the other kids and waited.

DD was treated with O2, solumedrol and ventolin. Her O2 level was 85% and her lips were turning blue.

Took her to the pediatrician yesterday and he said the hospital report said she was treated for asthma. We have a ventolin inhaler and an aerotube. I also have another appt. for next week.

So...what does this all mean? What should I expect? What do I want from the doctor?

Any advice is appreciated as both DH and myself are scared.

She may or may not have asthma-did they actually test her? I would get her into an asthma specialist to make sure. It could have been a number of things but they treated her for asthma since she presented with breathing issues.

If it is asthma she will need to be on a preventative med and have a rescue inhaler or nebulizer with her. You will be asked to monitor her peak flow ranges so they can get an idea of what is normal for her (breaths into a plastic device and pushed a needle to a number-no big deal). It gets to the point where you know your child needs meds or whatnot too.

Does anyone you know smoke around your child? If yes keep them away when they are smoking & it might get better. It did for my DD when she was young.

Nobody has ever smoked around my kids. I'm allergic myself.

I will ask about testing next week.
