I read a lot on here about how the airline agent was rude etc. I thought I would tell you what I saw today in the Atlanta airport.

Incident #1. I was trying to check my luggage at the Kiosk. The man in front of me decided to tell the agent his exact feelings about the airline. Apparently as a result of the hurricane in Texas his commuter plane the other day was grounded so the airline had to BUS them to Houston to catch the jet. He spent quite a few minutes on this. "I PAID FOR A FLIGHT, NOT A BUS RIDE, etc..." Of course I for one don't want to fly in a hurricane, but I guess he felt differently. He then decided to take on this poor agent regarding the entire fare pricing structure. He was foul and rude and kept saying that he was an elite flyer. Finally a supervisor took the man off where he berated her!

Incident #2. At the gate they made the announcement that if you had unticketed infants you need to check in and let the agent know. A man goes up to the gate. He and his wife have unticketed twins. He indicates that he has his car seats becuase his TA told him that if there was room the airline would let them use them. This flight was FULL! I know, I bought the last seat and there was a standby list of 15 people. The agent explains that he will have to gate check the seats. He gets irate. THEY TOLD ME I COULD USE THEM. Agent keeps her cool. They check the car seats. Man and wife get on the plane and sit down in aisle seats across from each other. They put the kids in the middle seats next to them. Then when someone shows up for the seats they REFUSE to move kids. It turns out they booked the middle seats for themselves apparently planning to put the kids in the aisles. NO GO. Everyone has seen this couple. The supervisor comes on and explains to the couple that they have two choices. Move to their seats and put the kids in their laps or get off. He explains that if they don't do what he is saying security will be called. They move. On the flight the woman proceeds to CUSS out her husband because he would not buy seats. (Note that there are 2 people between them during this fight and I can hear it several rows back!). She has already told the man in the aisle seat that if her child dies in turbulence it is his fault. He told her that it was her fault, she should have bought the seat.

You wonder why the people that work for the airline can be rude. Personally I thought that if I had to deal with things like this all day I would just start slugging.

Carol--Interesting reading. Incident 2 can also be blamed (in part) on the TA who told them not to bother buying seats for the twins. TA was trying to be of "service" by saving the people $. Somehow I think it was the TA who came up with bright idea of booking 2 middle seats.

The airlines are doing a good job in cancelling flights to decrease empty seats. People got BAD advice.

There is no way I could work with the public. Being a customer, I get PO'd, watching the rude and stupid people treat employees like dirt.

Actullay based on the wife's cussing I think incident #2 was just as much the husband as the TA. He told her to put the kids in the middle seats that "they won't make us move them!" And the wife indicated that she told the husband to buy the tickets. (There were a few words in her sentence that won't get past the filters! LOL!). He kind of acted like he knew everything and implied to the gate agent that she was lying and the flight was not full. Now, this was in Atlanta and they have these screens showing the flight status and it was FULL!
