Ok everyone, can anyone guess what happened today in history?
August 11
~ 1934, A group of federal prisoners classified as "most dangerous" arrives at Alcatraz Island, a 22-acre rocky outcrop situated 1.5 miles offshore in San Francisco Bay. The convicts--the first civilian prisoners to be housed in the new high-security penitentiary--joined a few dozen military prisoners left over from the island's days as a U.S. military prison.
~1864, Confederate General Jubal Early pulls out of Winchester, Virginia, as Union General Philip Sheridan approaches the city. Wary of his new foe, Early moved away to avoid an immediate conflict.
~1919, Andrew Carnegie dies. He was also known as the king of steel, architect of the second Industrial Revolution.
Well, hope you all liked the lesson for the day. Hope all is well and I'll be talking to you later.
