TODAY'S DR. PHIL; Heroin addicted twins.

I only caught a few minutes (10-15) of it. But I thought I heard the mother admit that they started drinking and smoking pot at 12/13. Ste stated that as a single mother she was counting on people in the system picking up the clues :sad2: . (That is her job, not just the schools).
Her daughters were skipping school, but most schools I know don't start making calls until x number of days absent. In our local public schools attendance is taken period to period. You can not believe the excuses we hear from parents. And kids are really good about knowing the rules(and hiding under them).

As far as the taping goes...I do not support anyone who stands by and allows a crime to be willfully committed. Bad move on the show's behalf.

As to checking into the house...that twin that was a real mess would have never gotten on a plane to go to rehab. So I am a little more ok with that.
Sad story ...where was the rest of their family? Father, Grandparents etc?

I know what you mean, that's absolutely ridiculous and I coudln't believe that they kept filming when she introduced that other prostitute to heroine. There is no way I could stand by and watch that :sad2:

we don't know what has ended up on the editing floor. i would like to think that the month of filming was actually used to persuade the girls to accept help. turning them in an the outset would have only driven them underground. their lifestyle could have been filmed in a day or two. after all its a 60 minute show. i do think that time was used to reel them in.

Good point. They used filming them as a way to gain their trust. :)

iho pe so and i hope they make it.
one thing that sarah said that made me think about why they didn't go into rehab was that the idea of the show seemed appealing. i can't remember what lead me to that impression but there was something.

This is absolutely what she said :guilty: what a sad thing, to believe that drinking/smoking at the age of 12/13 is normal teenage behavior, how sad is that.... even the father said the girls were delinquents and smoking at his house at age 13 & they either needed to move in with him and follow his rules, or he was done with them.... He could have tried further to be a positive influence on them from afar, but I'm not sure it would have helped... the person that was raising them, should have been the one watching and enforcing the rules... but there were no rules :( so sad... lives lost....

That guy wasn't their biological father. Something was said about him adopting them after he married their mother.

how awful for you. you have my sincere condolences. there was a young man in our town whose parents spent thousands of dollars on rehab, court, day treatment etc, when they thought they were turning the corner and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, he scored on the way home from day treatment. his mother found him dead on the toilet where he had just shot up. he started using at 14 and died at 22 or so. when we went to his wake he was dressed in a hoodie, very much like a teenager. it really underscored how drug abuse limits growth. if you start at 15 and stop 5 years later, you still have a 15 year old and they need time to catch up. he never caught up.

Thank you Dawn. I bolded your last sentence. How very true, about any addiction. For example, a lot of people don't understand you can be dealing with a 35 year old addict who still basically thinks like a 16 year old. The "but you are a grown man/woman!" argument doesn't work because in reality, they aren't. Those two girls are still at the age when they first started using.
