I must admit, i have seen some very compelling dr.phil shows that have made be tear up, but today's show of the 25 yr old twin sisters had me sobbing. they were beautiful liitle girls who started with pot and alcohol at 14 & 15 and then just spun out of control. at 25, one appears to be barely alive. their faces are scarred and broken out. they are emmaciated and filthy. they turn tricks to support their habits and ine is 6 months pregnant. i can't imagine that their mother couldn't have done SOMETHING....ANYTHING! its the first episode as they enter the Dr. Phil House. I hope they succeed. (the show ended 10 minutes ago and i am still sniffling)

a bump up. am i the only one who saw this today?

I didn't see it yet (it's on here in the a.m. and afternoon), but that doctor Phil house just exploits people, IMO. What happened to the awful couple that was living there before and fighting horribly in front of their kids? That should never have been allowed to happen for the sake of "good tv."

Nope, DH and I saw it too. He saw it coming on and screamed to me that he was "watching this one!". He hates Dr. Phil; I love him. :teeth:

Anywho, it was pretty difficult to watch. The one twin (Sarah?) who they showed the most is in some terrible shape! Yikes. If her story doesn't help at least one person NOT do drugs, then I don't know what will sway them!

One common thread I am seeing on tv (and with people I know who have gone down the wrong path) is that when they were younger they were able to do whatever they wanted without much consequence. Whether the parents didn't know or didn't care doesn't matter. But tough love is the way to go. No way am I going to let my 14 year olds smoke and drink because "its part of being a teenager". Sorry, but no wonder she's a crack ***** now!

When they got home, she left him immediately. Now they are divorcing. They both had some serious problems!

She already had her own place before going on the show. Putting the kids through more of that torment at the Dr. Phil house was not responsible counselling.

Don't watch Dr. Phil but did have a heroin addicted SIL and a crack addicted cousin. Both are dead, one died alone in her car, a victim of a heroin overdose, the other died alone in an alley, the victim of foul play. Both were unreachable. Both had parents who raised several other children who are not addicted to drugs, so it wasn't anything they did. People tend to blame the parents, when sometimes it is just what it seems -- some people are just bad seeds. :( What is sadder to me than the drug addicts are the people they leave in their wake....both my aunt and my MIL went to their graves with the guilt they felt over their children turning out the way they did. :(

i agree that some of the shows are exploitive but if you had seen this show, there is no way that these girls could be more exploited thaN WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO THEMSELVES. it was just horrendous. i don't care how he exploits them. i don't care if he locks them up in the basement of that house. if someone can save them it will be worth it.

I don't know who is the bigger loser, the crackheads or their mothers. The excuse that it's normal teenage behavior to experiment with drugs and alcohol is garbage. A responsible parent would impose consequences if their children came home drunk and/or high. Ten years ago was the time to force them into some kind of program, it's too late now, they're diseased and used and abused. This is far from "good tv". I missed who they said was taping the one twin injecting her "friend" with drugs? That is just absolutely disgusting.

Oh and "Destined to be a Junkie"? Excuses, excuses, EXCUSES!!! :furious:

Their mom seriously ticked me off saying that she thought drinking and smoking pot was "normal" for teenagers. From 15 up they were crying for help and she obviously hasn't done ANYTHING, but sit and watch :sad2:

I'm not saying that the mother didn't have more than a little bit of responsibilty when the girls were younger but it does sound like she was suffering from depression at the time... Unfortunately, depression can overtake any ability to care for yourself, let alone your kids. Sad sad story, the girls were so beautiful. :sad2:

Heroin was SO taboo when I was a teen, we knew it was one drug that if you tried it even once it was pretty much a death sentence... how it taken such a hold on today's youth again amazes & scares me.

I only watched a few minutes of it somewhere in the last 1/2 of the show. I saw the twins with all those scars. Then when one went to inject into the bottom of her leg I turned the channel.
That is such a sad story.

I had it on, but I found it hard to really watch. I'm a Dr. Phil fan, and I agree that these women need help. The stuff they were talking about that they do to support their habits - like having 3 ways with men. All that was just iiiicccckkkk! The sores on that one's face were just totally gross.

I'm not really sure how to phrase this, but I'm going to give it a shot. I do think there is a certain amount of exploitation going on with Dr. Phil on this one. Of course, ID twin heroine/crack addict prostitutes are more interesting than just a regular old crack/heroine addict prostitute.

ITA... it would have been just as easy to fly them to a Rehab for a doctor supervised Detox as it was to fly them to the Dr Phil House. Of course they may have had Doctors on call but they didn't say they did when making the comments that Sarah was in full withdrawal... Detoxing in that manner is NOT safe.

I don't watch those type shows, as like you, I lived through it first hand with relatives. In my case, my sister and BIL. Both are dead and I can't say I'm at all sad about BIL. His final "gift" to me was to commit suicide knowing full well I'd be the one to find him 10 days later. The one sad, finite fact is that an addict will only succeed in cleaning up their act if that is what they really want to do. No amount of outside influence will affect them in any way whatsoever. I hope those girls come to their senses before it's too late. And my sister's addiction was in no way my parents fault. It was just one of life's cruel twists and totally my sisters decision to live that way. She was offered love and help every step of the way and shunned it at every turn.

That's what I was thinking too. I was just like how is she detoxing *there*. I think there must be medical staff somewhere *in* the house just not being shown. It still doesn't seem safe though.

ETA: The one with all the sores on her face looks like she needs some IV abx! *STAT! :crazy2:  I heard her saying that she "picks" her face when she is high. The disgusting lack of hygiene would be a contributing factor to some MRSA or worse!

how awful for you. you have my sincere condolences. there was a young man in our town whose parents spent thousands of dollars on rehab, court, day treatment etc, when they thought they were turning the corner and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, he scored on the way home from day treatment. his mother found him dead on the toilet where he had just shot up. he started using at 14 and died at 22 or so. when we went to his wake he was dressed in a hoodie, very much like a teenager. it really underscored how drug abuse limits growth. if you start at 15 and stop 5 years later, you still have a 15 year old and they need time to catch up. he never caught up.

You know I was a bit upset with Dr. Phil over this show... It seems to me Joanie was following Sarah around FOR A MONTH with her camera filming? A STINKING MONTH??? What to make good TV?? She should have been trying to get the girl clean during that month....

They need a good rehab hospital, not the Dr. Phil house... now the mother? She could probably use the Dr. Phil house... It's normal teenage behavior at 13 to smoke & drink some alcohol??? Not in my stinking house it's not... her behavior was outrageous IMHO...

I know what you mean, that's absolutely ridiculous and I coudln't believe that they kept filming when she introduced that other prostitute to heroine. There is no way I could stand by and watch that :sad2:

I didn't see all that about introducing another prostitute to heroine! :earseek:

I noticed that Joanie was doing lots of talking, and there was a significant amount of footage. I thought maybe they had followed them for a few days. I had no idea it was a month!
