I really take exception to this statement. I have a very wide circle of married friends, family members and acquaintances, from all walks of life and areas of the country and in all of those couples, I don't know anyone like this. Either I'm very lucky to not know anyone of this nature, or that statement cannot be true. If it were a "very common profile", you would think I'd have come across at least one person like this in my 50+ years.

I do know how you feel and you will get past this. Regardless of how he treated you, you loved him. You're moving on, but still, it's like a piece of you remains in the past and it's hard not to get down at time. Everyone needs time to heal the wounds inflicted on us, even at an emotional level. No one can just move completely on without reflecting on the past. It's completely natural.

I think it would be very hard NOT to think of him at times. He was a major part of your life. The way he treated you was a reflection on him - not on you. You were true to the relationship - you tried to make it work - doesn't sound like you should have any regrets.

I went through a similar situation - I'm the same age as you actually - 28. I think of him at times and I get down, but just like you said in an earlier post, you learn to fend for yourself and you're the better for it!
