Today my mum thought I was trying to kill her

Once again, thanks for being here DIS friends. :grouphug: I will probably be here, letting everything spill out again soon. :sad1:

We're always here to listen and give out lots of  and prayers. I pray for you and your DH and your Mom. I hope God continues to give you the grace, patience, and comfort you need, the resources you may need however great or small, and comfort and peace to your Mother.

I am so, so sorry. My prayers for strength are with you during what must be a horribly difficult time.

Just an update. The doctor found that her potassium was very low and that she has a UTI or bladder infection. We have nurses in multiple times per week and they ask all about her health, she never said a word about it burning when she pees. :sad2: So she's on an antibiotic (not the same one as last time so hopefully no problems) and potassium pills. If these don't make her feel better she will go for a blood transfusion as her blood count is also low.

After last night I wasn't sure she would be coming home, or if they would put her into hospice care. (Well, recommend she go on the basis that we couldn't meet her needs anymore.) DH even asked me if I would agree to it if that was what the doctor said.

I know things will get worse. I know that. I know that she will die. But I'm very glad those things aren't today. Even it it's only postponing the inevitable.

Ember, I am so sorry that you are going through this. You're in my prayers.

I am so sorry that you are going through all this...and your poor Mom..

We were just in the emergency room with my 84 year old Mom last weekend as she was having problems with a hernia. They also found out that she had a bladder infection but she didn't have any pain in urination...?? We were all surprised by that diagnose. Tomorrow is her last day for antibiotics and they have been making her sick so she has a pill for that...

Please take care of yourself!

Jill

I know we're near the end, :

The end will be tough, I won't kid you about that, but let me relate my wife's experience.

She took care of both her parents until the end. It was hard and sad. They all had their up and down days.

Several years later I asked what her thoughts were and she said " I miss them both but I am at peace now, because I know I did everything I could for them."

You are doing everything you can for your mother and eventually you will find peace. To the day YOU take your last breath, you will have peace.

God bless you and a hug.

You know, it's ironic that you posted this, because my mom had experienced the exact same thing and it was in the end due to the same low potassium and UTI. After talking with the nurses, they said that UTI's in older/critically ill patients causes horrible hallucinations/dementia. Somewhere in my gut, I correlated what you wrote to that experience and almost pm'd you about it.
I'm glad she was put on the antibiotics and hopefully will giver her comfort with the physical aspects and some clarity.

:hug:Hang in there, your gifts of giving everything that you are will be eternally rewarded...
