Don't forget to hug a veteran and say "thank you"!

Thanks to all our past and present military personel!!!!! We love you!!!!!!

Thank you for the reminder. I'll definitely be reminding my kids that it's more than just a day off from school.

We'll be at the cemetary visiting DH's Dad. What I would like to know is if there is any way to send something to a grave at Arlington?? My grandfather is buried there. We're FINALLY going to get to "visit" in April :goodvibes

I watched "Saving Private Ryan" last night (for the umpteenth time) and could help thinking about how those once-young men are now towards the end of their lives (those who are still alive) and in wheel chairs, perhaps, with many of them pretty frail. Young people today probably see them only as old and somewhat useless without realizing that they went through a war unlike any since.

I'm a Vietnam veteran, but I find myself in awe of these World War II veterans. I have the utmost respect for any veteran of any war, but these guys, now in their 80s and 90s saw more carnage than all wars since combined. I salute them!

Indeed!!! I am very proud of our troops... past, present, and future. :lovestruc

I agree - thank a veteran for their unselfish service to this country, my adopted country! I love it and I love the flag under which they serve. God Bless the veterans and active duty personnel, you are very much appreciated.

Thank you to all of the soliders who have ever fought for our beautiful country! :grouphug:

We will always appreciate you.

We are taking our children down to Punchbowl tomorrow in hopes of helping them understand what an important day this is. Luckily, the schools here in HI give them the day off. I know a lot of schools don't. :(

DH is off work too and I know it's a big day for him, he regularly works with some wonderful and dedicated older vets on the Arizona and Missouri since he does reenlistments on those 2 places at least once a month. They absolutely are a special class of veterans. A real treasure.

Remember the Guard and Reservists!! :)

Punchbowl is an amazing place to be on Veteran's Day. I remember going there one year and being awe struck. All of those flags waving in the breeze... wow.

My grandfather is a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars (he was a naval officer). I'm so proud of him and everyone else who fought for our freedom. God bless our veterans!!!! :)

DH is a Veteran... he's been grounded from his XBox and he gets it back for the day ;)

He also gets to sleep in and will have pancakes, bacon and my homemade hot cocoa for breakfast.

He requested mexican for dinner, too.

He's gonna milk it all day I think :rotfl:

Yes, the Guard and Reservists too!! I personally think they face the toughest challenges because they get pulled out of civilian life when activated and are often far from any support a military base might off. They are a tough and resilient bunch! :thumbsup2

I saw that Punchbowl is doing a service at 10am...we might go and watch from a distance. DS (6) is on the autism spectrum so I'm not sure how he'd do so we may just watch from our car, etc. But I still want them to witness it and understand.

My grandfather was a WWII vet. May he RIP...:sad1:

Thanks to all our brave vets! :worship:

A big thank you to all our troops that are currently serving, a big thank you to all those veterans that served, and a big thank you to my DH who is also a veteran!!

I often think og my grandfather on veterans day, who is no longer here. He landed at Normandy and helped save a planet from tyranny.....Thank you all who serve:thumbsup2

And thanks to my true love...my husband, my rock.

Not that he's around here much, but he served faithfully for 20 years.

I absolutely disagree with you on political ideology but I am with you when it comes to our WWII Normandy vets. My God...what they all went through that fateful day. Please know that I admire your grandfather greatly. Oh the stories he probably told of WWII.

As an Air Force mom, I hold each and every member of the Military in a special place in my heart. God bless those who served in the past, serve in the present and those that will serve our country in the future.
