Today was my first meeting with WW at work. I have such a long way to go (my 10% is some peoples entire goal). I need an exercise program, but one that I can easily follow and not be discouraged by the size zero's on the screen Does anyone have a good beginner work out program? I bought the walk away the pounds, but want to change it up so I don't get bored. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't be discouraged. There are plenty of us here who are in the same boat! But I can tell you this for a fact....WW WORKS! Last year DH and & lost 30 pounds each and...well...to tell the truth, we were only doing WW about 70% of the time!

However....you MUST exercise at the same time in order for it to be most effective. So....walk. Put on headphones, or not. Take a friend, or don't. Whatever works for you. But just get moving. It's a great start! And hey, maybe that will be all you need! Walking is great exercise.

And hang around here. You'll get lots of support! :flower:

What about a women's only gym? I go to a curves-type gym... no bikini models allowed :teeth: Also there was a thread about the biggest loser workout DVD... they were saying it was good. I looked for it at target last night buy it wasn't there.

Good luck. WW is great. :flower:

hi p2oh and WELCOME TO WISH!!

congrats on your decision to live a healthier life! i know it can feel very discouraging -- focus on small mini-goals and before you know it you'll be well on your way!

i just wanted to suggest checking your library for workout DVDs to try before you buy. I like Denise Austin -- Shrink Your Female Fat Zones (but you'll need a set of hand weights and a stability ball) -- but most of her workouts are easy to follow. heck, she chatters through the whole thing! but it's helpful

Leslie Sansone's walk videos/DVD's are great! They work up a sweat, but aren't too strenuous. Also, WW has some great workout DVD's too. Ask your meeting leader. If they're not available anymore, check out ebay.

Don't forget activity points!! You'll be surprised to see how many activity points you spend from everyday things like cleaning, vacumming, etc. And pop in a cd and dance. It's great exercise too :teeth:

I really like working out to Denise Austin on Lifetime Channel in the morning. Her Fit & Lite program is a low impact program. She has a healthy image (not too skinny and intimidating). I like that she tells you to just do what you can. I'm sure she can do some of the stretches and exercises better than she does but she's not there to show you up. She also just came out with a walking DVD. I'm not sure how it is but I sure like her. I like working out in my living room too. I dont' want to pay for a club because it would be a chore to fit in the travel time, sitter, and I'd feel self conscious with the other people around. But, that's just me. Some people prefer to pay because it makes them do something to get their money's worth.

Even going for a walk would be good. You don't have to power walk.

Good luck to you. Do it in small steps.

I have a Leslie Sansone walking dvd series (may be similar to yours). There's no 0's on her dvds. I would change it up by intensifying or not intensifying the arm or leg movements. Try not to be discouraged. Do your best. Getting started is the biggest hurdle. You can do it! :teleport:

1/12/06 This is my day 2nd day as a WISHer.

Just wanted to say hi & congrats on making a choice towards being healthier!

Today is my day 3...

Hi! I joined WW @ Work on Tuesday! My 10% is also someone else's goal. As the leader told me, "Don't think of it as having to lose 100 lbs, but losing 5 pounds, 20 times." In other words, don't think of the total amount, but break it into smaller, manageable goals.

PM me if you want to talk!

:wave2: and best wishes on your journey!

Have you heard about the website called Dotti's weightloss zone at www.dwlz.com ? She has lots of good info and advice on her website and forums. If you haven't already you should take a look.

I am not on WW, but I am McDougalling, which is a low fat, starch based, vegetarian eating plan (www.drmcdougall.com).

:wizard: to all of us!

I really appreciate the support, I have met a great exercise buddy and look forward to losing weight!

That's great to hear! It's so much easier to get motivated to get out there and work out if there is someone there supporting you!! You guys can each help each other out when the other is lacking motivation!!

Good luck!!

I definitely agree with this! When I started, I wasn't even sure what my goal weight would be, it was so far away - I knew I wanted a healthy, fit body, but I didn't know what that would translate to in terms of pounds. So, I just focused on mini goals.

First, if you add the WISH clippie to your sig (check out the clippie thread), you get to change it every 5 pounds. I found getting a new clippie VERY motivating - especially when I got to change colors! I rewarded myself with every 25 pounds lost, usually with a mini shopping spree on Amazon.

I also celebrated when I reached milestones like 10% gone (and every 10% after that), leaving "decades" in my weight (from the 250's to the 240's, for instance), reaching round numbers like 250 or 200, and crossing BMI guidelines (from morbid obesity to obesity, etc.).

With all those mini goals, I had a new thing to celebrate almost every week! :teeth:

Keep up the great work - you can do it!!!

Welcome p2oh!! And I agree with AprilN. I always set these "little" goals to give you that inspiration that you really need. And trust me it was not encouraging to hear all these people that made LIFETIME after loosing less than what my 10% was. But I am going to keep with it.
They say exercise is best if you can find a buddy. My DH was my buddy but he has been soooo busy that I don't see him much anymore let alone work out together. Just don't find someone who constantly wants to "compete" with you, if that's not what motivates you. When I did WW at work, I found friends to walk with at lunch. But it was a little TOO much to hear them talk about WW all the time.
I try not to obsess on it and just focus on feeling good. Remember that how you feel on the inside is more important than how you look on the outside. I made a lot of changes in my life after joining WW. I lost my job (but that's ok) because I took this opportunity to make my life better. I am in nursing school and if I keep on track with losing 1-2 lbs a week I will have made my goal of 150 by the time I graduate in August. And I will feel good about myself and that will make me a better person and nurse so I can pass that on to my patients.
Ok I am off my soap box and back to packing and studying. Leaving tomorrow for WDW so I need to get back to work.

I just wanted to check in again. I purchased the Biggest Loser Video and I really like it. I am also riding my bike to Disney. I really thank you all for the great support this board provides. I am actually excited to weigh in at my meeting on Wednesday. :disrocks:

I did WW after having my 2nd child, being a bridesmaid helped me to get motivated and it does work so that's the great thing! Also if you're not used to excercise it's less overwhelming if you start getting used to eating differently first. They suggested at my WW that you don't attempt starting an excercise routine until you've been on WW for at least 4 weeks. Makes sense because you could get overwhelmed and discouraged easily. But once you start excercising the weight comes off easier. I have a few of the Walk away the pounds tapes which are great and I had borrowed my mom's Richard Simmons tape (gasp!) and it was fun, low impact and helped me lose weight!

I had my first weigh in at WW today and I am down 6.6 lbs. I am pumped! Thank you all for the encouragement :disrocks:
