On December 23, 1913, the U.S. Congress passes the Federal Reserve Act, establishing a Federal Reserve Board with power over monetary policy and creating the nation's first central banking system since the 1830s.

On December 23, 1944, General Dwight D. Eisenhower confirms the death sentence of Private Eddie Slovik, the only American shot for desertion since the Civil War.

On December 23, 1947, the transistor is invented.

On December 23, 1974, the B-1 bomber makes its first successful test flight.

I can still see myself walking araound holding that transistor radio up to my ear. It was pink, too.

Thanks, Deb.
