Hi
This may sound a daft question but does anyone know
if i would be able to take a toaster in my luggage :confused3
If i was a driver would buy one when we arrive.

Thanks
Debbie

I don't see why not but I think your case would be checked for sure. Have a look on your airline's site, they usually have a list of what is permitted on board and in the hold.

do you mean a toaster for bread?...but the electricity will be wrong....
wouldn't it just be easier to pop into walmart and buy one?...they're very inexpensive...
we've bought lots of pots and pans over the years just to use on the trip and then just left them behind...

Beth, I think this is why she said she is not a driver so will not be venturing to supermarkets. I thought the toaster would work but would take longer because of the drop in voltage.

perhaps....it's something she should check before she drags it with her to the states....
by the way, a lot of villas have toasters included in the kitchen...so maybe she doesn't need it at all....
the onsite villas all have them...and the onsite hotels have toasters in the food courts (at least WL and dixie landings have one....the others probably do as well)...

We bought a toaster from Walgreens and it was not expensive, the same with the kettle we have bought one both times for $10 and left them behind. Depending on where you are staying, we stayed on the I Drive and there are about 3 Walgreen's which sell electrical goods. :goodvibes

hi
we bought a toaster in walmart = the first time we used it the smoke and heat alarms were set off even though it was well away from them! yuo could get a step down converter in this country but hardly worth it, as said most food courts have toasters. kettles from this country work but take ages and travel kettles with out a dual voltage switc also take a long time and hold pathetic little water. the coffee makers in the room are adequately hot for making tea etc,

Why bother making your own toast?
its a cheap to go to somewhere like the Golden corral, Ponderosa etc and get them to do it for you!

Reading your post it suggests you haven't got a car, so you are either staying on IDrive, Kissimmee or on-site - is that correct?

If you really can't go without a toaster and haven't got a car there are various options available to you:

  • Arrange a Towncar transfer to your hotel with a grocery stop. You can then buy a cheap toaster, bread, pop tarts, butter and marmalade etc. on the way to your hotel.
  • You could try and find a toaster online and have it delivered to your hotel for when you arrive.
  • Forget the toaster and find a Ponderosa, Sizzler, Golden Corral and have an all you can eat breakfast for a few $$ :)
If you take a toaster with you, you will also have to either bring it back or leave it there. Bringing it back would leave less room for shopping items!

We bought the toaster the first time we went as hubby was craving a piece of toast but we had the same problem with the smoke alarm going off so it was ditched after a couple of uses. The kettle I bought as I don't think (and I maybe wrong) the coffee maker boils water and the one thing I cannot go without is a good cup of tea. :)

Hi

Thank you for all your replys. I suspected it was a 'daft' question.
I am staying on site at pop am the one with the fussy eater child.
Even at home he is a nightmare I know it sounds pathetic but it is such a worry. Thought with a toaster at least it would feed him some what. I thought he would grow out of being fussy but at 12 doubt it now.
It was a nightmare at DLP and that was just 5 days!!

I am going to use *********** from airport so will have to get them to take me to walmart and get a toaster there as someone adviced thanks for that.

In that case don't worry - I am sure they will have toasters in the food court at Pop. They certainly had them at All Stars. Anyone know for sure??

hi
if you rinse the coffee pot out with warm water before you start the water get s plenty hot enough to make tea. i agree it may not actually get to boiling point but ours tasted o.k. last week.

Hi

Yes there are 2 toasters at Pop, quite big ones that you can fit a fair few slices of toast on, they also have the butter or spread there as well free of charge, but you have to pay for the bread which comes in packs of 2.

Hope that helps

or you can buy a loaf of bread or a package of bagels or whatever and keep them in your room and then bring them over to the food court for toasting..
that's what we used to do when we stayed at Dixie Landings...
i would buy a bag of Lenders Bagels and keep them in the room....then bring them over to the food court to toast them and bring them back to the room (especially easy since we stayed in the building right next to the main building...)
this was a lot cheaper than buying a bagel in the food court (which cost about the same for one bagel as a bag of six.....and the bag of bagels was sold right in the dixie landings souvenir shop)....

or you can bring it to the food court, toast it and eat it right there...
you'll probably want to buy something else in the food court for others in your family anyway..

i don't know if the pop includes a fridge in your room, but if not, you can request one (for something like $10 a day back when we used to stay at dixie landings - now called port orleans riverside)...
we would keep milk and juice in the fridge and a box of cereal...
the food court had paper plates, bowls, spoons and napkins...
since we also bought food in the food court (like for lunch/dinner/late night snacks), i didn't feel badly about 'borrowing' a few paper products for the kids breakfast...
the souvenir store at POR sold bags of bagels, boxes of cereal, big bottles of milk, juice etc. so i think they were assuming people would do what we were doing...

as for finicky eaters, i know what you mean ;)

Thanks again Beth you are a star. :sunny:

we always have boxes of cereal with us on the plane....we bring unsweetened cheerios...which is kind of silly since it's MADE in the USA....
but that's what my daughter likes to eat...and you have to understand, she's 21 years old....but one of these really skinny people who has to eat all the time...so she always has a box of cereal with her in her backpack...and i mean a big box, not those little individual ones...

anyway, we bring a few boxes with us and then we buy more in the grocery store...i don't know the set up at pop....if they don't have enough stuff for you to choose from, and if you don't have a car to get you to a grocery store, you can go to the store at the boardwalk (or any of the hotels that have villas - like the WL, or OKW)....at the villa hotel stores they have a bigger selection of food....including big boxes of cereal, milk etc..
but they might have it at the Pop also (like they did at POR and i think at the all stars, but i can't remember back then anymore)..

my kids also aren't junk eaters (unlike their mother)....they never were...when they were little and said they were hungry and i offered them a cookie, they would say "no mom, we want real food"....clearly they must have been switched at the hospital....i would go for the cookie every time..

so to answer your question, yes you can bring wheetabix with you....
