This my seem like a stupid question but can i back a toaster in my check in luggage? we are flying from buffalo with south west, the family likes begals for breakfast and not much else or should I just buy one at walmart.

Well, I don't know about a toaster, but a few years ago, my MIL insisted I bring back a large frying pan for one of her daughters! I did pack it in my suitcase (luckily, no extra $$ for extra weight) wrapped in a plastic bag. When I got home, I noticed that my bag had been opened by TSA (there was a paper inside that said it had been checked). It must have looked odd going through the x-ray machine, so they opened it!:confused3

Good luck!

If you're staying in a vacation club, then toasters are in the villas...

It won't be a problem in your checked luggage other than maybe adding weight.

However, I would worry more about being able to use it in the room as most hotels prohibit the use of portable cooking devices. The electrical wiring isn't set up for it and there are no fans for smoke removal.

The value and moderate resorts as well as a couple of the deluxes have toasters in the food courts. You could buy bagels ahead of time or just get them daily at the food court and just toast them there.

As a pp said a DVC room will also be set up for light cooking and would have a toaster.

I flew down and camped at Ft. Wilderness, in my checked bags down I had an electric griddle, a hot pot for water, and 2 pots for cooking. On the way back the griddle (due to it's weight) was in the carry on, they asked what they were seeing on the x-ray but didn't want it pulled out. For sure you can take it in the checked bag and shouldn't have a problem if you want an appliance in your carryon. Just like a blowdryer and curling iron wouldn't be a problem.

The food courts at the Disney resort...at least the Mods and Values have toasters for your use. I would save the weight and toast your bagels in the food court. Besides Disney prohibits portable appliances in the rooms. They are not wired for them and there is nothing for smoke removal and it could set off the fire alarm.

We took our toaster last time - fairly light and small - and packed it in our checked luggage, not carry on. We had no issues using it and just made sure to plug it in just prior to toasting and then unplugging it directly afterward. It worked well and saved us all kinds of time in the morning! Go for it!

I can't wait to see what happens when the smoke alarm goes off. I'm not sure I'd trust the baggage handlers not to dent my toaster, either.

Good luck with all that...

Not to doubt you or anything, but where does this information come from? In years and years at various hotels, both at Walt Disney World and elsewhere, I have never heard this before. We have carried a toaster at least once, and nearly always a coffee maker (even though there is usually one in the room anymore). If this is the rule at some hotels, it has to win an award for one of the least enforced rules in the history of rules.

I am a former cast member.

Besides there are toasters in the Food Court that can be used...for FREE. Why even lug something like that down?

There is a sign at the elevator where I am currently staying which says exactly what Lintasare wrote (well, in Italian, but other than that it is the same ;) )
