I have two computers connected through a router with my computer being the base. My router keeps disconnecting. It happens about every 10 minutes or so. I have to unplug it, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in. Then it works for the 10 minutes.

I have now idea what's going on. Anybody have any ideas?

My mother in laws house got wired from cox internet home networking.

everything worked great the first 2 months then what your experiencing started to happen...about an hr on the phone with cox and it started working right... for 72 hrs...then it shut down completely...anthother hr on the phone and they had to send a tech out.

seems original tech had installed a nic ( networking interface card) card into the system by habit not reralizing the mother board already had one wired into it. causing interference.

why it took so long for the computer to realize it didnt like this no one knows, but that was 7 months ago and they havent had a problem since.

maybe this helps.

Check your cable modem/dsl modem and see if the lights are all lit up. That could be disconnecting also.

Check to make sure that the cables are all snug.

goto Internet explorer and type in the address http://192.168.0.1

this will take you to your router configuration

Normal username is

If you havent changed the passowrd then its prob password.

Check the configuration settings in here.

goto the maker of the router's site and update the router firmware.

just a few questions:

what kind of connection are you on? DSL? Cable? You can try resetting your router, hopefully (and I'm assuming since you asked) you have no complicated settings, so just go to the back of the router and there should be a little hole that says reset, you need to stick a paper clip or something pointy in the hole and reset the router. Though it might not be the router, We have a cable modem and were having tons of problems with it, it was a motorola modem and there are 5 lights, the top one being power, and the bottom one flashes orange to show you're online. It kept resetting and then not connecting back to the internet, it was doing this a good 15 times per day, and we found out it was due to the wiring outside that the cable company did when they installed it. So they came and fixed it no problem, no charge. Let us know some more specifics, such as the modem indicators and the router indicators, and maybe we can help you better.
