To Wear a hat or not in parks

we have not run out of room yet... they sign the brim (top and bottom), the whole hat, and sometimes on the inside if necessary... it works!

What do you use for the characters to lean on while writing? I love this idea of signing the hat. I will definitely be wearing a hat the 5 times I've gone to WDW I've always worn a hat, I went to DL last year and tried a visor instead and got a sunburned scalp! It was very painful. Never again, I'm taking my hat, and its beige (from Animal Kingdom Lion King) and would love to get the autographs on it. Do you use a Sharpie?

If your son likes sports, help him find a baseball style cap from his favorite team. He might want to wear that more before your trip. I always wear my Mickey baseball cap. It started out as a dark blue, but has sun faded over the last couple of years to a very pale denim color and is much cooler on my head. I pull my ponytail through it and it really stays put.

Caution with a baseball cap. Sunscreen your ears (trust me on this one!) and the back of your neck. These areas won't be protected by a baseball cap.

I always wear a hat. Besides the obvious functions of keeping the sun out of my eyes and reducing the possiblity of sunburn, it keeps my hair out of sight (and out of my eyes!).

When I wear a baseball-type hat I pull my hair through the hole in the back--no fuss, no muss, no hair in my face. When I wear a wide-brimmed straw hat, I pull my hair up in a bun, stick the hat on, and leave it on until I go back to my room for the night. I stick a barette, a bobby pin or some other kind of pin through the hat into my hair (DH always suggests either staples or Crazy Glue:rolleyes: ) and I haven't lost a hat yet!

DH also wears his Grumpy hat everywhere, partly to keep the sun off and partly to hide his "non-existant" bald spot!

Just got back from WDW last Sat. Oh yes, we wear hats during the summer months! Dd and I always have them on. It keeps us cooler in the sun and then when we are in the shade, we take them off to let our heads breathe!! Mine has a velcro strap so when I go on a ride, I just unfasten it and refasten it over my fanny pack strap. Dd's fits inside my fanny pack, all rolled up. There was one afternoon, around 4ish, we went back to the parks after our mid-day rest poolside. I didn't take my hat, figuring that it wouldn't be that hot. Wrong!!! Thought I was gonna die. Never forgot it again. Just remember to sunscreen the tops of your ears!!!

we've used everything from sharpies to regular pens to crayons and more... just don't attempt to wash it! thin sharpies are probably the best though...

Hats are a great idea if you remember to take care of them. I would never bring down a good hat anymore, but thats just me. Last trip I lost two hats, both my favorites, on Splash Mountian, and Rock Roll. The first my my mistake because there are many times you think you are going to drop on splash, so I took it off for a while, put it back on and forgot. Next thing you know the picture of us coming down shows me reaching back in a vain effort to try to capture my flying hat. People where laughing at the exit at the pic, I was not that pleased:mad: My second must have slipped out during rock and roll because I had it on the floor of our car. Once again, i was not pleased. To make a long story short, wal-mart hats all the way::yes::

My scalp gets sunburned so I have to wear a hat in the summer. I found a light cotton bucket hat that's lined with terry on the inside. The terry absorbed the sweat and it was really comfy to wear. Plus it was my first trip with no sunburns :Pinkbounc

First of all, let me just say, I am NOT a hat person. BUT, at disney it is a must for me. The sun gives me headaches and wearing a hat helps keep them away. That and keeping plenty hydrated! I just have to commit to hat head first thing in the morning, and I am fine!

Every picture of me from WDW is me wearing a hat. I wear it more because of frizzy hair than sun protection, but it works for both. I found that going on space/splash/rnr ruins my hair anyways. Plus it makes getting ready in the morning a lot easier. Take a shower, put hair in ponytail, put on hat, done!! No blow dryer, styling products, etc

Another hat wearer here! On our second trip down, my scalp got really burnt, and I swore from then on, I wear a hat! I used to have really thick hair, but after two pregnancies, one of things that changed was my hair thinned out, alot!!! I even wear a hat when we go to the water parks. DH wears a hat (he's gotten burnt a few times too!). Older DD has my thick hair, so she can get away with a visor, but younger DD wears a hat too. Good excuse to buy souveniers (more hats!).:wave2:

I say don't bring a hat to WDW......That way you have an excuse to buy a new one.:teeth:

We (myself 44, DH39, DS10, DS7) always wear hats. These and sunglasses help to prevent headaches for all. We wear waist packs and slip both glasses and hats in when we go on a ride. Pull them back out when we get done. We often display our pins (with locking backs) on our hats. When it gets really hot, we've soaked the hats in a drinking fountain and then put them back on to cool us down.

We didn't wear hats last time, but it was December.. We're going Aug/Sept this year though and most def wearing a hat :)

Just wanted to let you know that if you ever lose a hat or other item on a ride, you may be able to get it back.

My dh lost his favorite hat on Space Mountain. We told the CM and he told us that they pick up and take all the lost articles to Guest Relations when the park closed. We went by before we left the park that night and he did get his hat back.

They hadn't received the articles from Space Mountain when we first got there. They were very nice and kept us entertained while we waited. It was my dh's birthday. They called him to the telephone for Goofy to wish him a Happy Birthday. When it did finally come, the CM came out of the back with it on his head acting like he didn't know it was there. The group working that night were really funny. My dh was so happy to get his hat back.

Bring a hat!! It makes walking around SO MUCH more enjoyable! The idea of having to keep your hand over you eyes whenever you go in and out of the sun doesn't sound fun, right?

Add to this the fact that your scalp won't get "sunburn" like the rest of your body might in the Florida sun LOL.

Putting on skin care consultant persona...

Okay,

Definitely wear the hat!

Okay, off of my Arbonne Skin Care Educator "soap box"

:sunny:

I SWEAR by my "theme park" hat. It wasn't cheap, but it's a great hat, a 'Vineyard Haven' model from Watership Trading. I got mine at REI. Here is Watership Trading's website:

I've been wearing my VH for 4 yrs. now. This hat *never* loses it's shape; it always looks sharp no matter how often I scrunch it up and stuff it in a bag. It has a thin wire spring running all around through the edge of the brim to hold it out, and the entire brim is filled with foam and double-quilted; so that the hat will float if it falls into water. It has a retainer cord with a slide, too, so that you can shorten it up tight to keep it on your head in windy conditions. I've embroidered my initials on the inner brim so that I can identify it if I leave it somewhere, though I never have; I'm so used to wearing it in theme parks that I would notice right away if it wasn't there.

Absolutely wear a hat in Aug. Here's a quick tip to staying cool.......if you have a cloth hat, soak it in cold water before you leave for a day at the parks. Make sure you wring out the excess water. Once you make it to the park, the evaporation :sunny: of water from your hat will help to cool you off. If your hat gets dry, just repeat as necessary :teeth:

I don't usually wear a hat everyday, but I think I'm going to try using it on my trips in hotter monthes now. My DH & DS always wear hats....
