OK i'm finally posting my trippie from September, sorry for the delay folks! By the way, if you haven't read my pre-trippie then it's HERE Just gets you acquainted with who we are, background to the trip etc!
OK so these trip reports have been slightly delayed. Partly down to starting my third year of uni and it knocking my socks off since Im still working aswell and also because Im a terrible procrastinator. If anyone has ever seen Dave Gormans Googlewhack Adventure, basically him trying to write a novel is me trying to do any everyday task, without the whole gallivanting round the globe visiting random people thing. Anyway, as you can tell Im digressing already so, on with the report!
12th September 2007 (Travel Day)
Fast-forwarding past my crazy last-minute packing/house cleaning/duplicating of important paperwork I pick Steve up from work at 4 (back in the heady days when he was on training and always finished way before 5, no such skiving nowadays!) My dear papa offered to pick us up and take us to Manchester airport:
Hi dad!
We were out the door at 5:15 and on our way.. In my opinion the holiday has now begun, yay! Very little traffic considering it's still rush hour, somebody up there loves us today methinks, and we arrive at Bewleys in half an hour. Said my goodbyes and left dad with the fat envelope (Lynn! Sorry, had an Alan Partridge moment there..) of painstakingly copied 'important stuff' and a birthday card since he would be turning 60 whilst we were away. Checked in no problem, settled up for the stay and went up to the room (218):
The bed was comfy
Tea and coffee making facilities, always a bonus
I take pictures of the weirdest things.. I thought these dispenser thingies in the shower were cute! Don't worry, this is the first of many odd photos to come!!
Great view.. Not!
They also had a Corby trouser press, the Alan-isms just keep on coming! My mum phoned to ask if we were on our way, very surprised to hear we'd already arrived and after some jealous mutterings on her part (I didn't gloat.. Much!) we said our goodbyes, had a cup of tea (Me and Steve that is, mum may have had a cup of tea but i'm not entirely sure) and then went down to find somewhere for dinner. We didn't fancy the Bewleys menu so we booked tomorrow's airport shuttle then headed to Terminal 1. After some confusion we got there in the end and decided on Garfunkels. We both decided on the baked potato and soup combo:
Tuna potato for me...
...And a cheesy one for Steve
I'm aware that from the picture both of these meals look like puke but darnit I made a show of myself taking photos of them so i'm putting them in here! Anyway, they both hit the spot and weren't bad value for airport food at £20 including drinks (JD and coke for Steve, mango and passionfruit smoothie for me) and tip.
After another cuppa in the room we watched some TV in bed, early night for an early start tomorrow!
