To wash or not to wash?

Well... this thread has inspired me!!

When I worked at WDW for a summer, out of a total of almost three months, I did laundry twice. Admittedly, I was wearing my 'costume' most of the time, but yes... twice :rotfl:

So, you can imagine how much stuff I took out there with me!! I had clothes everywhere!!! I also accumulated a lot of stuff whilst out there, so this was a nightmare when it came down to packing to come home. I don't want a repeat of buying emergency suitcases and stupid luggage fees at the airport!

So for this holiday (where my objective is to shop, shop, shop!!), I've now been inspired to pack a week's worth of stuff and wash it half way through - I'm kinda excited about all the extra room I'm going to have!!! (Although I say that now... I'm sure it will be a different story when I actually come down to packing and can't possible decide what to take and end up throwing everything in the suitcase 'just in case' :rotfl:)

We always wash while we are in Florida.

We wash every day. Once or twice a week we wash clothes too ;) :littleangel: Sorry, couldn't resist that one

I pack 2 pairs of clean undies per person per day (1 lot for the morning and another clean lot for after the shower in the afternoon).

Well I hope what happened to me about 10 years ago never happens to you with all that underwear ... you are a high risk candidate ;) The short story is a forklift or something similar went through my suitcase and my underwear arrived one at a time on the carousel about 10 minutes before the damaged bag did :rotfl2:

:rotfl::rotfl:
Sounds like a scene out of Miranda :rotfl2:

SOMEBODY MUST have a video of that! I'd pay mega bucks to see it:rotfl: Plus a very red faced female picking them up one by one! I would have been in hysterics if I'd been there and saw that:lmao: Sorry!!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2: you know what Lee as I was reading this a shiver went down my spine as I just KNEW what what coming ..... all I can say is if it does happen to us I hope for everyone's sake it happens on the way out not on the way back.... after all I do have 3 men in the family

We are going to wdw for 2 weeks in April, my usual holiday philosophy is not to do any washing / laundry while I'm away ( there r 4 of us, me DH, DS12 and DD10). This is our first time in Florida, we usually do beach holidays in the med, so we mostly wear swim gear, which we just rinse out and take a few shorts etc for the evenings. My inclination is to try to do without laundry in Florida, but I'm aware that may be too much to take for 2 weeks. Also I've heard that there isn't a lot of drawer / storage pace for clothes in the wdw hotel rooms. What do others do? Do you pack as much as much as you can ( within weight limits) and avoid laundry or do you cut down in the packing and make use of the laundry room?

If you use the laundry how does that work? Do you have to sit & wait for the machine or do you go off to the pool or bar while its doing its thing? How long does it take? & is it a big inconvenience to fit in in the middle of an action packed holiday. Just interested to hear others strategies

We always do our laundry while we are there so that when we come home there isn't a ton of washing to do. With a family of 4, it is possible to take enough stuff that you don't have to do any washing while you're there, but it really isn't a hardship to do it. We tend to go down later in the evening to the pool and do the wash while we swim.

I wash every couple of days.

At OKW it was 30 mins to wash and 30 mins to dry. Never say anyone else in the laundry (it was free to use) The laundry is by the pool so i'd do it then or pop down in the evening - left it there-didn't stay in the laundry.

Are you nuts? That's what travel insurance is for. It's not just for stuff - it's for repuations :rotfl: I just acted like they had nothing to do with me :wave2: It's probably on CCTV lol.

:lmao: 2 words for you Isobel: DISPOSABLE UNDIES :rotfl:

Soooo .....how many pairs are you going to pack next time with all your washing powder? :lmao:

We are washers - last trip we took just two cases between the 4 of us (kids were 14&12).

Although - ALWAYS CHECK THE MACHINES FIRST - last year at RPR there were two crayons in a dryer (not ours) that literally melted over all our favourite clothes (DH's brand new Team GB top looked ruined). After an emotional breakdown in the reception - I was distraught - the hotel took all our clothes and sent them away to be cleaned offsite - they managed to salvage 95% of the clothes - including DH's precious top!

To be honest - I don't think I have 14 consecutive days worth of holiday clothing that would allow me to escape washing!

Oh I remember you posting about that :sad2:

Another thing to check for, and this may just have been me with my head in the clouds, but I have thrown all my detergent and laundry into a machine, put the money in and hit start ... and I had put the money into the slots for the machine next to mine. I had to leave a note on the one with the detergent in to warn others that it was in there :crazy2:

Near the end of our holl we spent a full morning in the laundry room! At first i thought my mum was mad for suggesting it when we could have been at a park lol. But it really was a good thing, as when we got home we only had 3 days worth of clothes to wash.

We take enough clothes for two weeks and wash it all as soon as we get back. We're usually jet lagged and nap for about 4 hours when we get home so I'll put on a few washes then! This year we've purchased extra luggage allowance for the return journey, so we can fill up flying out and pack an extra bag for the flight home, just filled with dirty washing, probably!

Errr well ummmm ............. that would be because maybe ... just maybe we all have easily enough clothes probably for up to a 3 or 4 week holiday due to my incurable disease called shoppingitis :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sorry to hear about your illness Isobel. Unfortunately, as I understand it, the only treatment is to feed the addiction :rotfl:

Now this is a more serious question: Am I the only person who finds it odd to pay £35 extra per bag to accommodate extra dirty laundry on the way home instead of plonking 4 Quarters into a machine a couple of times while you relax at the pool?

I have to own up to actually enjoying washing on holiday :guilty:

If we're in an apartment I stick the washer on in the evening and at the hotel stick it in and take my book by the pool ;)

I once took DD (then 12) to a launderette in a rather less salubrious area of Florida - lets just say it was "interesting" :rotfl2:

I know what you mean; sometimes an hour of quiet peace sitting in the sun reading a book is just what you need - no-one disturbs you incase they get dragged in to helping with the washing!

It's nice to not have any when you come ;)

I have to admit I'm not the one who does the washing on holiday, ( I barely do it at home) lol
DH is the one who takes it down at least twice a wk, ill even complain that he can do it tomorrow that is until I go to find something and realise I needed it washed when DH said he was going to do it!!
DH always goes in the evening and has never had a problem with the machines being full, we did however have a bag stolen from the launderette at AKL!!! The boys had put their light up toys in the end pocket too with out us knowing, Disney actually replaced the light up toys but the back never turned up, I was so mad as we then had to go buy a new one for the way home.

Staying in a 2 bed at SSR was HEAVEN for DH as he could put a load on pretty much every day hahaha.
His huge bug bare is coming home after 3wks to a huge pile of washing, an I er take enough for all of us so my washing pile is usually really bad, in fact I was on the phone to Susanne from Disboards (Mickey1 ) the night before we went on holiday and she was pretty shocked at the amount I was taking I had something stupid like 12 pairs of trousers 15 tops, 5 pairs of shoes, 9 dresses the list goes on!!!

Yes, I'll have enough to do ;) we get back on the Friday & DS & DD will be off to Uni that week-end. Shouldn't be a prob as we're at OKW this year so can do in the evenings in the villa:)
