To wash or not o wash daily

I have a very dry scalp, so if I shampoo every day it will only get dryer and cracked and crispy looking. I shampoo every few days, but every day I wet and style with a little leave in conditioner.

My hair is also very thick and curly, so that might have something to do with it?

This info has been around for ages and it's surprising how many people are not aware of it.. It's very unhealthy for your hair - whether you color treat it or not..

For unruly hair, simply wet it a bit and style.. No need to wash it every day.. I've developed a bit of a cow-lick over the years, but wetting and styling usually works fine.. I wash my hair (which I normally wear extremely short) every few days - sometimes every 2 days during the summer or if I've been sick (which tends to make my hair oily)..:)

I wash my hair daily- otherwise I look like some sort of psychotic rooster! :scared1:

I have never seen a psychotic rooster, maybe you should post a pic in the morning

I wash everyday because the older I have gotten the oiler my hair has become. I am temted to try that shampoo that Melissa Gilbert does that infomercial for in the morning on the food network because she says I have been washing my hair the wrong way for years. How could I not trust Halfpint?

Oh, another tip was to only use clear shampoos. :cheer2:

Clear shampoo is more clarifying. Which is fine if you're only washing every few days - but if you're a daily washer or you hair is colored, an opaque shampoo is better.

I wash my hair every other day, but don't use a lot of product at all in it. If I have to style it with product (which is very rare) I HAVE to wash it as soon as possible.

I wash mine every morning. You DO NOT want to see me without washed hair...very, very oily!!!
me too. I can get away with washing the next evening but I really dont like to do it that way at all!

I have baby fine hair and it just isnt controlable unless its washed every day

My rule is "wash your hair when it gets dirty." Duh! LOL I can go every other day now but in my twenties it was daily. Hopefully as I age it'll wait longer.

I wash my hair generally every other day. Sometimes if I'm just hanging out at home it will be every two days or if I go to the gym it will be every day but those are exceptions (especially the gym!:rotfl:)

I wash my hair every day...I workout 6 days a week, and I sweat a lot. My hair would look and feel terrible if I didn't wash it every day.

I hate my hair when it is freshly washed. It is super thick and although straight it gets really poofy, even in the winter. I mostly shower at night because of this, and my second day hair usually looks nice and smooth with no products or styling, just a quick brush. I go anywhere from 2-4 days between washings, but by day 4 I tend to stick around the house.

I do wash it everyday in WDW, usually because we swim or it's so hot.

oh, I have to wash my hair everyday! it gets super oily in about 12 hours...plus I work in a restaurant.

However, if i'm going to be home my entire day off i usually don't wash my hair...just to give it a break.

I wash mine every other day. But, I am going to look into that co-washing thing!

I wash my hair every third day, and don't do the rinsing/conditioning on the off days. I put my hair in a shower cap when I shower on the off days. Washing my hair less often keeps it from drying out, and helps the color last longer.

If my hair is a bit oily on the off days, I put a little bit of baby powder on my hands and fingers, and rub my hands over the part line, hair at the edge of my face, and run my fingers through my hair to distribute it at the roots all around. I just do a little bit of powder at a time. I then brush my hair really well to work it in, and to make it not look like I have powder in my hair. No one has ever said anything about my hair looking odd, and I work with people who would say something if it did.

I actually get more compliments on my hair on my off days. On those days, I just run the chi iron over my hair to straighten it out a bit from sleeping on it. And of course, if needed, do the baby powder thing beforehand.

Maybe I can get away with this since I don't use a lot of product in my hair. All I use is a bit of flat iron spray between blow-drying and the flat iron, and then a very light mist of L'oreal Elnett hair spray.

Yeah I wash everyday. I workout and it gets so oily and stinky if I don't.

Daily hairwashing is very much an American thing, and it is a practice that I did NOT grow up with. I adopted it when I was a teen, thank goodness, because it seriously improved my social standing. (My mother was horrified; she kept going on about my catching my death because it was being wet every day!)

I have very thin, baby-fine hair. When I was young it was thicker, but never what any hairdresser would call thick. Now that I'm in my late 40's, I'm rather quickly going bald. Luckily, as a woman, I can get away with a comb-over without looking like an idiot. What I cannot get away with is skipping a daily hair wash. My hair smells terrible if I do; it is super-oily and ends up looking like wet cornrows within about 36 hours from the last wash. Occasionally if I'm doing something grubby on a weekend I will skip a wash until later that day in order to avoid washing it twice in 24 hours, but that is as far as I go.

Ironically, I have an endocrine condition that means that I almost never perspire, so I have almost no body odor in terms of my skin unless I work out or do yardwork in summer. I could easily go 4 days without bathing before anyone would notice the smell of sweat on me, but my hair would rat me out before the end of the second day.

I do the cowash thing along with no shampooing unless I have junked up my hair with all that styling stuff. :cutie:, I am pretty much a wash and go kind of chick:ssst:

Me too! I have to wash it everyday or else it feels oily and I don't know I feel like it's dirty feeling so I have to wash it daily! I think people with oily hair feel the need to wash it more because it's so uncomfortable if you don't, for me at least.

I have to wash it every day or I just feel skanky the whole day! I hate the smell of an unwashed head. I don't use a blow dryer or curling iron- those ruin your hair. I don't put hair spray or mousse in and I don't dye my hair so washing it daily certainly doesn't do any harm- when I go to the hairdresser they always comment on how soft my hair is.
