Ok ladies I have been left in the dark for 33 years! I had no idea you were not supposed to wash your hair daily! Am I the only one who has been doing this? No wonder why my hair always looks so dry.

When I was younger and my hair was shorter, i washed it every morning. It stuck straight up from sleep, and it was oily.

Now I wash it every 3rd day. I color my hair and try not to over do the washing.

I wash my hair every other day because I color it and it gets too dry if I do it every day. I usually wash it every day on vacation, especially at the shore, but anytime I am outside and hot. After a week, it is dry and awful and I need to super condition when I get home.

I wash mine every morning. You DO NOT want to see me without washed hair...very, very oily!!!

At least once a day here. I can't stand unwashed hair. Mine gets too oily too fast. There is no happy medium for me. I've tried to move to an every other day schedule but I couldn't stand msyelf on the off days.

Is it the actual shampooing that dries it out, or is it the styling and blowdrying? My hairdresser suggested that I not shampoo every day, but I always wet and style it. I didn't see any improvement.

mla, you are not alone! I too just learned this a few years ago.... and it seems to me that it totally depends on your hair/scalp.

I've tried it. A few times. I would still get my hair wet and even comb in the shower in an effort to pull the natural oils from my scalp down into my hair (because it was going to be so good for my hair, right?). I would wash with shampoo every other day.

After a few of my co-workers asked me (on a couple of different occasions) if I had dyed my hair darker (it is naturally sandy blonde, and I've never colored it) I knew that washing every other day was not working for me. My hair would look a teeny bit darker to ME on the "non-washing days" but I figured it was something I saw but no one else would ever notice. I was wrong. :goodvibes

So, in conclusion 1) Don't feel bad... I didn't know either! and 2) Try it... you might love it or you might stick with the habits you've had for 33 years! :)

I am going to have to try this co-washing thing! My hairdresser was the first to tell me not to wash daily, then I started asking my friends, and they ALL go 3-4 days without washing their hair!!! I feel like my hair gets greasy after 24 hours, but a friend said to give it a week or two and it will stop. I am on a week and a half of every other day and it is less greasy! My hair looks pretty good too!

Oh, another tip was to only use clear shampoos. :cheer2:

Clear shampoos huh? The tip I usually get is to only use their $30 salon shampoo...... that AIN'T gonna happen! :lmao:

I was cursed with an oily scalp and dry ends  so I have to wash my hair daily, though I try to wash only my scalp, I don't think it's working ;)
Lately, I've also been putting jojoba oil on my ends before I go to bed to moisturize them, that does seem to be working. So to answer your question, yes I do wash my hair everyday. Though most everyone I know can go at least every other day without washing. Very jealous, since my hair is long and must be styled or else its a disaster.

I wash daily!!! If you use a good shampoo (like Bioloage Hydrating Shampoo) your hair will be nice, never dry.

I hear you again I think it depends on hair type, mine is so dry that it takes a week of not washing and daily leave in conditioner before it starts to look oily. and even than not too much. We all have to find what works for us.

There are also dry shampoos that you can use on your "off" day. I've used some of the more expensive ones (T3 and Ojon Rub Out) and they work well. There are also some cheaper brands that you can get at the drugstore, I actually just picked one up today to try it out. I use the dry shampoo mostly in a pinch. I do prefer to wash daily. I just feel icky when I don't.

ugh! If I skip a day - ewwww, it's a greasy mess. And I'm in my 50's! I always had oily skin and an oily scalp. I thought my scalp would start to dry out as I aged, like my skin did, but NO.

And, I usually use the expensive salon Rene Furterer shampoo & conditioner. (Although I'm curently using a salon lavender shampoo & my hairdreser said that my hair is too dry. How can that woman tell?!)

I have to go every 3-4 days. My hair/scalp are not happy if I wash it too often, my hair gets dry and my scalp gets oily...so every 3-4 days was the magic number. (btw..I have thick wavy/curly hair and hardly ever use any sort of product in it or blow dry it...usually just towel/air dry straight out of the shower, no product.)
