To video or not to video...

...that is the question!

I can't decide whether to take the video camera or not - as much as we'd enjoy looking at the footage I'm thinking that as we are only going for 2 nights/3 days that the time would be better spent just enjoying DLRP rather than playing 'video diaries' - that and the last time I took video footage in DLRP at Christmas my had almost froze!

We have video footage of the Christmas Parade so I'm thinking I'd be better off leaving the video camera at home and saving it for a summer trip when we go for longer and it's warmer.

Thoughts?

Hi Steve! Are you and Denise bouncing off the walls yet doing a Tigger impression??? The first time we went to WDW we took loads of video footage which we watched when we got back but hardly at all after that. We didn't take the video camera after that as the person doing the filming seemed to have to be "on duty" all the time to capture everything on film and not be able to just look around and enjoy the atmosphere. It's different with still photos. Anyway that's just my feeling - whatever you decide to do I know you'll have a really wonderful time!!!

Steve,
If the crowds are anything like what we just experienced, I would definitely leave the Video Camera at home.
I had the same dilemna and have never video'd in DLP. I opted (last minute) that I was going to concentrate on still photography and so the video cam stayed at home.
I am very glad I made this decision as it was just too packed to film anything.

Save it for the nice warm, sunny weather.
Regards,
Russ.

Thanks for the replies - I've made my mind up, video camera stays at home. I'll take the DigiCam so I can have a load of nice photos and just enjoy spending Christmas in DLRP.

Why not take loads of photos then put them on DVD slideshow and set them to seasonal Disney music. You can then sit and watch them like a video, without having to actually shoot any moving image ? A great way to view photos and easier to show other people.

There you go, one step ahead.
I bought my video camera about a year ago and have spent hours editing holidays (Vegas, New York, Orlando). I am a real perfectionist so it takes forever to get a final cut. (New York still not complete and we went in March).
The photo slide shows are a lot easier. What software do you use ?

If I had a camcorder I think I'd video the parade - as long as I wasn't only seeing it the once, mainly because there are some family members who can't come and would love to see it. However, stacks of photos are a great idea. I'm planning on doing a photoslideshow of all mine in the new year but am finding the 'soundtrack' hard to decide on, particularly for the pics I took in the village.

I agree with you Di, and generally people act so different when there is a video camera in tow. Videos get looked at when you first arrive home but it is the photo albums that get looked at the most.

I am taking my video camera this time though because I do not have any videos of DLP and my digital camera does not take good photos in the dark. Worth a try at least but I won't loose any sleep if I am unable to video things for any reason

We always take video camera and designate a day or half a day to using it, the rest of the time it remains in hotel safe.

That's a good idea Nicola :)

I think that's what we'll do in the summer but as we only have a few days and the crowds will be manic, plus I already have the Christmas parade on video - it will be left at home.
