To UPS or not to UPS?

Well.. 28 days to go! I am really considering UPS'ing my dress to my resort for the wedding. I'm just a little too afraid to bring it as a carry-on, due to the restrictions. Granted, there's no liquid in my dress but I'm just a little scared that it's going to be taken out of the bag, and as a result, and get DIRTY or cut by a disgruntled TSA worker...
On the other hand, UPS has always been good to me, and has never mishandled a package of mine ....
The general consensus of friends/family is to UPS it.

Have any of you UPS'ed your wedding dress to Disney?

Have you contacted the airline yet and explained the situation? Shipping my dress would make me a nervous wreck, though I'm sure it would show up just fine. Maybe you can ship it to your em as soon as you can so if there is a problem you have some time to work it out. You might even be able to meet with a seamstress when you get down there to do a final fitting. Best of luck with it - hope this helps

I've been thinking the same thing. We are flying Jet Blue and we asked the crew on one of our recent flights. They said there's no room to hang anything. However, if the captain is nice, he might let you hang it up in the cockpit... it all depends on the captain that day though... I"m nervous about stuffing it in a carry-on bag. It's mostly tulle and it's going to wrinkle horribly if I have to fold and smash it into a bag that's small enough to get on the plane. ARgh... let me know what you think about UPSing yours and if it works out for you. My future in-laws live in Kissimmee and I could have it shipped there.... Good luck!!! We are almost at the 100 day mark and we are getting excited! I can't imagine how you must feel.

I am *SO* excited! I'm pretty sure that UPS is the way to go, for me at least. We're flying AirTran, and I was told that it HAS to fit in a carry-on bag, and can't be hung up... boo. I'm nervous about putting it in a carry-on bag altogether... I would be DEVASTATED if it got lost, ripped, and/or dirty. I'm trying to decide now if I should have it shipped straight to the Caribbean Beach Resort, or to Carolyn Allen's. I'm leaning toward having it shipped to the hotel because it'll be in my hands sooner! (I heard the hotels are OK with getting packages beforehand. ::whew:

I've checked prices and it seems like it would cost approx $50 to have it sent 2nd-day air.... definitely worth my sanity.

Just a question: is there much difference between stuffing it in a carry-on bag, versus stuffing it in a box to ship it? Won't they both be equally wrinkled? Just wondering. I will have the same dilemma.....but things might change by then with the recent airline rules.

As a former UPS employee and Disney bride, I would suggest doing this only if going air and not ground. Going ground, it spends too much time in hubs, trucks and the hands of others, upping the chances of damage.

My second biggest concern would then be the employees at CBR getting it and keeping it safe until it is in your hands.

I don't even know what I would have done if we had to fly instead of drive.

I would definitely ship it air, not ground. I'd possibly even overnight it.

I already have my appointment with Carolyn Allen's for steaming on the wedding day, and they're even coming the day before the wedding to fit the groom and fathers for tux fittings. So, that shouldn't be a huge problem.

I want to ship it early enough that it would get there in time, but not *too* early. (Wedding is on a Tuesday, we're arriving the Saturday before)
What method of shipping do you think would work best?

My bridal salon is shipping the dress to my parents home in NJ so that I would not have to pay tax.. (It was bought in NY) We have decided not to even open it once we receive it and have it brought directly to Disney (my mother is driving it is there because she does not trust anyone else with it lol she's sooo paranoid)

Is there anyway the salon can ship it directly to Disney? I was told that it will be shipped in a way that it is ready to wear and will NOT be wrinkled in the least *and for what i paid for it it better not be!*

I would ship next day air...those are guaranteed to arrive by 10:30 AM on the next business day. Maybe you could ship it out on Thursday to arrive on Friday, and you arrive on Saturday? If there's a snafu, you have a few days to get it handled. They will do air deliveries on Saturdays, too.

I shipped my dress and DD's dress via UPS for our vow renewal. I had the dreses shipped to Carolyn Allen's as she was going to pres them and deliver them to our resort. I shipped on Thursday around noon and Carolyn called me on Monday morning to tell me that my dress had arrived.

If UPS, I would consider the fact that your dress could possibly retain an odor- such as employee smoking, stinky sweaty hot trucks, etc. Just something to consider.

Do what you are most comfortable with- I would probably carry it on my lap but I am a paranoid freak at this point!

I agree with the others, it is up to you to do what you are most comfortable with. I know if it were me I would drive down there so I could keep my eye on it, but I am sure it would arrive fine if you did ship it.
BTW, how much does dress steaming cost through Carolyn Allen's?? If someone could let me know that would be great, as I am just crunching some numbers over here

I plan to use them.... I havent heard many good or bad things about them other than the fact that most people use them for dress steaming.

I talked to someone from there today and they will do only dresses as well. My quote was $65 for my dress and $15 for the bm gowns & tuxes. If you don't have any tuxes they will come out for just dresses even if you have not purchased your gowns from their shop. You can have your dress delivered or shipped to their shop but you will pay a storage fee. They will come to your hotel room.

I think I already know the answer to this (probably no) but does Disney provide a steaming service at any of their hotels?
