To upgrade or not to upgrade?

We've scheduled a trip for Sept. 20-26, and I'm really counting on the fall dining promotion. I've seen, however, that AOA (we're a family of 6) usually only gets quick service when the fall dining promotion is offered.
I would really like to eat at Cinderella's Royal Table and Ohana. So my question is this: "When" the promotions become available can I upgrade just a few of the days to the regular dining plan (which would be cheaper than OOP for the 2 meals) or should we create a split stay so that I can upgrade 3 days of the trip (thus giving me the 3 TS credits I need)?
I don't necessarily want to pay to upgrade every day to the regular plan, but it may be worth it. My 180 days is next week. Should I go ahead and reserve as though I will have the regular dining plan and then cancel reservations if that promotion doesn't become available to us? My travel agent recommends that I just upgrade the whole week, but I would like to hear your opinions.
Thanks!

You cannot upgrade just part of a stay. If you want 2 different dining plans you would have to make 2 separate reservations, but...in the past, for free dining each reservation would require a minimum of 2 day tickets for everyone 3 years and up on the res and a minimum 3 night stay.

I would go ahead and book the reservations because you can always cancel if FD doesn't fall within your trip dates.
