To Upgrade or Not...or Lens Instead?

Sounds like the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 is the way to go...would you say that it's vastly superior to the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM?

Thanks for the compliment & for taking the time to check out my flickr page, KCmike!

Before I went FF with the 6d i owned a t2i and my primary lens was the sigma 17-50 2.8. When I purchased the lens I went through all the reviews and comparisons between it and the Canon 17-55. At that time the Sigma was $550 and the Canon was $1000. For me it was an easy decision. The Sigma was almost half the cost and the performance from all reviews were very close. I was generally happy with my decision at the time and the Sigma served me well for the 3 years I had it. Toward the end when my wife had our baby I started taking more pics of people and became disappointed in the lens. Indoors in decent light even at f/4 the lens would miss focus often (this was mostly with a flash). Mostly front focusing. Outside in good light this lens was tack sharp even at 2.8. I am not exactly sure what was going on but I was going to trade this lens for the Canon if I stayed Crop.

Now that the lenses are closer in cost I think its worth it to purchase the Canon. Canon had a sale on the preowned page this week and the 17-55 was $569. That's a great deal since it has a 1 year warranty now.

best of luck with your decision.
