To Upgrade or Not? Advice needed

We're booked at POR for our Disneymoon Oct 29-Nov 3. We registered on the Disney Honeymoon Registry and have gotten alot more than we expected and are considering upgrading to a deluxe resort. I've never stayed at POR and have heard great things about it. Should we use that extra money and upgrade, or should be just keep our ressies at POR and take the extra spending money? I'm torn! Help!

If we upgrade, we're looking into either The Contemporary or Yacht or Beach Club. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

if you can upgrade, I would. I actually would stay at poly instead. it is really awesome there. you get the total disney feel when you are there. also, the beach club is really nice. since i assume it will be just the two of you, you rather be at MGM/Epcot more than MK. so you can walk right from there. if you like the MK alot, go for POLY. i think its alot nicer than contemporary...more romantic and very easy to get on the monorail to get to epcot

I stayed at POFQ on my honeymoon and while it was very nice if I knew then...I definitely suggest you upgrade! It's the only time in our lives when we could've and should've splurged but didn't know better. Now we're breaking the bank to do this trip with DD at a deluxe. I agree with the previous poster too, if you can have a resort pick I'd go with Poly or CR.

My order of upgrade (and I would )

1. Yacht club
2. Beach club
3. Contemporary.

I should say I've never been to the contemporary so I won't compare.

Yacht club is gorgeous, very, very elegant and romantic. Location is definitely the best. You walk to Epcot and MGM. Walking back from the world showcase across the gateway at night is absolutely the most romantic path. Very softly lit, quiet and pretty. You have a ton of dining options.
All of world showcase restaurants, the restaurants along the broadwalk plus the restuarants in both the Yacht and beach club. Last but not least you have the best resort pool, stromalong bay.

Congratulations and no matter which you choose you will have a great time.

It's your honeymoon! Definitely go for the upgrade. I would choose the Polynesian myself but my second choice would be the Beach Club. Then you could walk to Epcot at night.

You only have one Disneymoon, so I say go for it!!!

My order of choice & why.....

1. Yacht Club - It's a bit quieter than the beach club and has wonderful access to both Epcot, MGM, Jellyrolls & Atlantic Dance Hall.

2. Contemporaty - The view!! (Assuming you go for a tower room), easy access to MK.

3. Beach Club - Beautiful resort with the same benefits as the Yacht Club, but more kids.

Definitely upgrade. Contemporary if you want a really nice room and possibly a view of the castle. BC/YC if you like the beach theme and being close to Epcot (World Showcase would be a nice place to hang with your new spouse). I agree with others who suggest the Poly. I think you'll be happy with any of the deluxes.

If you are going to upgrade I would go YC or BC.

(Sorry, but the CR has absolutely NO romantic appeal IMHO and the Poly is basically an overpriced outdoor access hotel IMHO. Plus I would want a hot tub on my "honeymoon" missing that at the Poly.)

Plus it's an adult trip, being able to pop into Epcot for a nice meal, drink etc is very nice.

We stayed at POR in 1997 for our disneymoon. If you can I would upgrade. However, my 1st choice would be WL. Enjoy.

Before the kids come along definately go for the upgrade ... my top 2 choices would be Poly or GF I think they have the most "romance"

I, too, vote for the upgrade...either the Poly or the GF. We stayed at the Poly in a garden view concierge room on our honeymoon in 1996. It was so beautiful and romantic.

I would've loved it if the GF had been available, but it wasn't...it gave me a new resort to look forward to on our first anniversary

I would definitely upgrade to a Deluxe. I would choose the Poly, although not on your list. I do not think you can go wrong with your choices. Best Wishes and a little pixie dust for you!

Thank you soooooo much for your responses. I know I've made my decision , now I just have to convince DF we should do it. Everyone is right, this is our only honeymoon and we deserve to splurge a little. We actually just switched resorts for our wedding and saved $600, so that will come in handy.

I've ruled out CR, as I agree, I don't think its the most romantic. I think we're going to go with the Yacht Club. Thanks again for your input! And I've got to say that the Disney Honeymoon Registry is fantastic. Its a really nice alternative than traditional gifts. We really didn't think many people would go for it and we weren't counting on anyone contributing to our registry, but we were really surprised at the outcome.

I voted for BC as the Poly was not listed. We went to POR on our late honeymoon (we had to save up the $$) and we had a wonderful time. But now after having 3 wonderful kids I wish that DH and I had tried somewhere else - we had been to POR 3 years prior and I wish we would have splurged a little bit more.
