To update or not to update, that is the question

I don't have automatic updates on my MDE app and I still have an older version (version 7.10) which is from before they took away the functionality to see the G+ return times between 7 - 7:30am. We are going next month and my plan was to keep this version of the app. However, they added functionality to park passes / reservations in the new update that came out today, and it keeps prompting me to upgrade to be able to see my park passes. I can see my park passes / reservations just fine. My question is, if you have this latest version (upgraded today) can you see return times between 7 and 7:30am? Trying to decide if I deal with the annoying "upgrade" pop-up or just upgrade.

Agree, not sure what the benefit of keeping an older version is. and missing whatever the current features are.
I also suspect if you run into an issue with MDE, they will blame it on the older version and you should have updated.

Any security feature additions would also be part of the update. And agree with the above poster. Disney probably isn't "supporting" the older versions, and if you come by any issues, won't really have much to say other than 'you need to update'.

Because I can see the G+ times for all rides that they took away with the previous update. Now you have to click on each attraction between 7 and 7:30. So, that’s a significant advantage of the older version.

If you find that an advantage then I say keep it. You'll have to forgo the park passes feature in the meantime.
Maybe someone else in your group can upgrade so you can see the difference?
See which is truly more worthwhile?
Personally, I don't understand the advantage of seeing return times but if you do, that's all that is important.

I may stick with the old version. My DH has the update. We will see which is best. How do I find out what the latest update does? We are about 10 days out from our trip.

As I understand it that is the newest rule regarding booking times and hopping so it sounds like it’s working correctly

Like you I was holding out on upgrading the app for the same reason. We are at WDW now and I was able to purchase Genie+ without any issues but I could not make a LL selection. I kept receiving an error message and had to use my DD's updated app. The older version is also not letting me make ADR's. Unless you also have an updated device you will be forced to update your app.

I can't think of any reason to keep the older app. Disney IT is already unstable enough that trying to keep using something out of date just invites more problems. Since you only use that app when planning a vacation (or when actually @ Disney), I don't see why you would want to stay with the older version. Updates often fix known issues from prior versions or add new functionality.

THANK YOU! Super helpful. I was able to make an ADR just now, so I think that is still working, but not being able to select an LL would be major catastrophe.

Really? I always wait to update MDE because they often "fix" things with newer releases that break previous functionality. Do a search in these forums and you will get plenty of reasons to wait to upgrade MDE until it is deemed "safe" to do so.

Disney took out the wait times in the morning because, especially with the previous ILL rides, the final return time was often not the time initially shown. So, to reduce the number of irate people, they just say "Available" and then let you decide if you want it or not.

Recent reports:

I was surprised to see all the lightning lane times displaying when I checked at 7:19 a.m. Eastern this morning. Did they change that or did I encounter a fluke?

I read somewhere that they changed it to show times after 7:15 instead of 7:30.

So it might be worthwhile updating now.

I am going to hold out just to see what happens the first morning. We have 2 other iPhones and an iPad so if my phone doesn’t work we should still be okay. All the others have the latest MDE.
