how do you use them. Do you stay for really long stays? Go during peak times? Go on many trips? Always get two bedrooms?:confused3

I'm just curious. I was on the Illinois DVC member thread. There were people with 800-1000 points and I just can't imagine what kind of trips they take.

just subscribing as a find this very interesting and I really really wish that I had 1000 points! :goodvibes

We take two 2-week trips a year, plus a four day mini trip.
We get 1br villas for my wife and me, and we have only stayed in a studio once. On average we get a beach cottage at VB every other year, and the plan is to get a GV at AKV every third year.
We don't worry much about weekends (but do a little).
We have 350 at VWL, 300 at VB, and 450 at AKV for a total of 1100 points. :smokin:

Our summer trips eat the points. Normally we are booking two 2 bedrooms for a week in HHI, this year we are booking 2 rooms at the DLR hotel.. This summer we are treating our friends, and in Oct our BIL is joining us.

So we use all our points because... We take too many trips, with too many freinds.

Oh and we love it!

I'm one of those with MEaGer points (200). Somehow we still manage to spread them out strategically and keep happy. :)

We almost always bring family or friends along and we book one or two bedrooms for them and for us. We usually only go for 1 week at a time, but it really doesn't take long to blow 1150 points, trust me!

Here's wishing I had more points :rotfl:

We have 300 points and I have to keep myself from calling my guide everyday to add on. We never seem to have enough. Partly because we have become two bedroom snobs and tend to take family and friends with us.

We have 1200 points and never have enough!! We go for six weeks in the spring - but Easter always eats up a lot - 3 weeks in a studio and 3 weeks in a two bedroom with kids and company coming and going. We have rented extra points for the last two years! Never have enough points and have never, ever regretted owning them!! Love every minute - - 31 days and we will be in OKW again!!

:) I'm right with you there! When I take my mom and dad down for our yearly December trip we get a two bedroom for just the three of us!

Hmmm. This thread got me thinking.

Is there a limit on how many days in a row a member can stay in a unit? So, say someone did have megapoints and enough to stay three months in a unit (90) days--maybe over the winter--would they be allowed to do that ?(assuming they could book it of course!)

DW asked me the same question -- could we continue to purchase points until we had enough for a 4-5 week time in Florida when we retire. The blasted 5-6 foot piles of snow in the front yard wouldn't have anything to do with that though.:scared:

I beleive that there is a rule that you can not own more than 3000 points at any given resort in order to prevent people from "moving in". Someone please correct my number if this is not right.

DH and I have always thought that we might like to have 1000-1500 points at some point so that we could go to Disney and stay for 30-45 days as a "second home". The MFs might make this unrealistic but it is fun to dream.:cloud9:

I thought it was 2000 for one resort and 5000 total.

Ok so I did an experiment with the points calculator--

for a 1-Bedroom Savannah View at AKV for January 1-February 29, 2008 the total points would be 1886. So if someone did have 2,000 points at AKV they could stay during what are the worst months of the winter in Florida at AKV. (Assuming, of course, that there isn't some other length of stay rule that we don't know about (and as someone pointed out, there are those pesky MF fees!))

If they did have another 2,000 points at another resort presumably they could move there for another two months. Just speculation, of course--but an earlier post about how many nights someone's points translated to got me to thinking about this . . . of course I live in So.Calif. so I personally would not need to stay in Florida for the winter!

But what a dream to be able to spend two months in Disney . . . just relaxing . . . and taking trips for an hour or two to the parks when you feel like it here and there . .. .

Well, I'm not sure we have mega points...we're not over 1000, but with four kids we would always use a two bedroom unit; staying 2-3 weeks over Easter and 2-3 weeks in the summer. We would often switch from points to cash with a Member discount for the weekends.

Yeah, it's a lot of money but considerably less than buying a second home. which is really what Old Key West has been for us.

Hey,cc1075! We live up in Ludington!

We have 916, or maybe 926 points. My addition keeps getting a different answer, but we are usually borrowing from next year anyhow! We take a 7 day trip in March, a trip in the fall, and a two week trip at Christmas! This year we are staying in a grande villa at OKW for Christmas, so it's easy to see where our points go every year!;)

it looks like those with "mega points" tend to stay in larger accommodations & during peak seasons, not neccessarily for longer periods of time or more frequently.
we have a mere 400 points, but go at least 2x a year, anywhere from studio to 2 bdrm (i need to try a GV one day).
with more points, i think we would still opt for a minimum of one spring & one F&WF vacation, but DH & i would stay in a 1 bdrm instead of a studio (still BWV w/BV view tho:lovestruc ).
and instead of the 2 bdrm every other august for 7 ppl, we would prob get a GV. problem is that almost all our vacations are at BWVs tho, so would require more BWV points (only have 230 there).
i think adding "just a few";) (200-300) more BWV points would make us very happy.....:cloud9:

I like this thread....when I first saw it, I was waiting for everyone to respond with "rent them" answers. With all the topics that go down that road it is nice to see all the people that have have bought this many points and are using them! I hope to one day get to a point where we can go for a couple of weeks at a time. :goodvibes
