To those who can't do rides, and the people who love them...

Like many people, I can't do some of the more exciting rides out there; the last time I went to Universal, which was several years ago, there were a lot of things I couldn't do. I want to go again - later on this year or maybe even next year - because I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, as are most of the rest of my extended family, but several of the people in my family have the same issue I do with 'thrill' rides, whether due to motion sickness or due to back problems. While being immersed in the HP world will be great and I'm sure we'll go anyway, I would really appreciate it if some of the people who have experienced Universal, and hopefully WWOHP, could post what rides at Universal (if any) are equivalent to Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. The 'dip' in that ride, which is a walk in the park to most, is pretty much as much as my stomach will ... stomach. :rolleyes1 (Motion sickness remedies don't work for me in this situation.)

My thanks in advance for any input. :)

You would be good on E.T., Shrek and Jimmy Neutron (stationary seating is available for both), High in the Sky Suess Trolley Train and the Caro-seuss-el...maybe Cat in the Hat if it's not spinning. I don't equate anything at Universal with PoTC though. I think everything else would be too much for you.

I can't ride most things anymore either due to high blood pressure problems but I have ridden them all before. I still enjoy walking around the parks both at Disney and Universal. Ah...the joys of getting older.

Thanks for the reply. :) I've done ET, but that was many years ago, the first time I went to Universal; the Pyscho house was still there then and the Alfred Hitchcock attraction, that may tell you just how long ago that was. :sad1: There were a lot of things I could experience there then. When I went more recently, maybe...5 years ago, it was with my niece for her birthday, and I found there were more rides than anything else. So we did a lot of walking; I felt really bad that for her that she couldn't do a ride unless she left me and did it alone. :sad2: It was sort of funny - she didn't want to ride ET because she said it traumatized her the first time we went - she was little then and I was surprised she did get really scared :scared1: given it was ET (whom she adored back then), but she loves thrill rides now (Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, etc). ET is the only one she won't ride. :confused3 When we all go (me 48, sis 46, daughter, 14, nephews 23, 18, 13, and hopefully the aforementioned niece 21 ;)) I'm sure at least a couple of them will do ET with me. :)

Like you, I enjoy walking thru and doing the rides I can and seeing the attractions, so I know I'll definitely go even if I can't ride, and my daughter will have her cousins to go on the rides with, so everyone will enjoy themselves. I really hope I can walk through some of the HP rides; I've heard the queues are amazing!

I'm pretty sure you can walk through the queue and see what's there for Forbidden Journey and Dragon Challenge...that's what I'm going to do. :thumbsup2

I'm a huge ride chicken and have motion sickness issues due to an inner ear issue. Here are the rides I can do:

US - Shrek, Twister, Disaster, Jaws, ET and the shows - Hollywood Horror Makeup, Animal Actors, Beetlejuice, Blues Brother and Fear Factor. I can't do Simpsons, Rip Ride Rockit or Jimmy Neutron (even in the stationary seats). I've done Men in Black and The Mummy, but I can take motion sickness medicine ahead of time for those two which helps. I also can't do them back to back or more than once a day.

IOA - I can do most of the stuff in Suess' Landing, as long as we don't spin too much in the Cat in the Hat. I also do Spiderman and just close my eyes on the "down" part.

The Terminator Show should also be fine.

If anyone in your group can handle some spinning (like Disney's Tea Party but not constant) they will likely be able to ride Men In Black and Cat in the Hat. If they can handle Splash Mountain, I think that most could do the Jurassic Park ride. At least they might want to look at the drop and the car you ride in. Popeye's Bilge Ride Barges is a whitewater ride where you will get drenched and I mean drenched.

Maybe you guys can help me. My sister has high blood pressure and migraines. She got really sick after Wild Artic at SW and also a little sick after Star Tours at HS. By sick I mean bad migraine with a lot of pain and nearly passing out.
I said NO SIMULATORS for her this summer but she really loves Spiderman and wants to ride it. I rode it and didn't think it was bad at all, less intense than Simpsons IMO. But for me Wild Artic is VERY mild!

Those of you who have high blood pressure, can you ride Spiderman and feel fine after?

Odd as it sounds, I find some coasters milder than water drops, like Dudleys or Thorpe Park or even Pirates. The drop rides do make my stomach go, but rollercoasters, since you're travelling at speed enough that you don't actual feel it when you go upside down, don't feel bad at all. I can go on Hulk (although the launch I don't like!) and Dragon Challenge (Dueling Dragons as it used to be), but am having to psychy myself up to go on Dudley's again since I hated it first time :rotfl:

totally agree with you Claire-Bear, I have no problem with Hulk, RRR, Saw at TP but water rides freak me out! something about the slow ride up then the drop makes my stomach flip! did Dudleys but wont do again, likewise Jurassic Park ride, couldnt even get on Tidal Wave at TP! what a big chicken I am!! LOL

I have problems with hypertension but never get migraines. None of the rides bother me at all so it might have more to do with her migraines. :confused3

Spiderman is actually a 'normal' ride with simulator effects. Can she go on moving dark rides? Maybe she could close her eyes if she starts to feel odd?

My general advice to people (same rule we have for my kids). Go on every ride you think you will have a problem with, at least three times. If you are still having issues on the third time, then we'll talk.

Usually this weeds out most of the Psychosomatic issues that I believe are the true problem in 95% of the "ride chickens". ;)

Problem is it's not going to happen right away. Usually she's fine through the ride and the trouble begins a few minutes after it's over. I guess for her it's like a rush of adrenaline except for most people it goes down slowly, whereas she'll just crash within a few seconds.

JMO but I don't think this thread is about ride "chickens" but about people who physically CAN NOT do certain types of rides. I'm a ride chicken but thrill rides don't make me sick, they just scare the living daylights outta me. My sister on the other hand - well if we had made her ride Wild Artic 3 times we would have spent the rest of the day at the ER. Not quite my favorite theme park in Orlando!:sad1:

The trouble is that if she gets hit with a migraine so much later it's probably impossible to know for sure. It's different for everyone so she might just have to be careful and skip Spiderman or take a chance and try it.

Wow, hard one. :(
