To stay at YC or BC..thats the question

Ok so I'm trying to convince DH on YC/BC. I'm comfortable w/SAB now - thanks to all that replied to my SAB thread. Now I'm trying to decide whether we should stay at YC or BC. From what I've read and understand the biggest difference is decor. They share the same amenities & restaurants. Appears the kids section of SAB is easier to get to from the YC side - correct? Any other differences I should be aware of? Not sure which has the better views. According to UG, we should spend the extra for a water view room. Any thoughts on that?

Would we be comfortable staying at the YC as far as having 3 kids? Our kids aren't too rowdy - they may run down the halls which we try to stop asap but that would be worst thing. I know the YC has been described as quieter & more elegant then BC...other families w/kids stay there right? Not just couples. I guess I'm feeling the "GF syndrome" w/the YC but seems like thats a misconception.

Thanks as always for any info.

We have two girls and highly prefer the YC. It's not near as boisterous and rowdy but still comfortable and welcoming. Of course we also love the GF, not stuffy either. I think you'll like the YC.

Another difference is that most of the YC rooms have full balconies that have room for 2 chairs and a small table. Most of the BC rooms seem to have standing only balconies, if they have one at all. We love to sit outside in the morning and have our coffee before the kids wake up, so the balcony means a lot to us.

As I've mentioned, my kids are now 11 and 5 and we stayed at YC in August. We also stayed there in 2006 when they were 10 and 4. It did not feel at all like kids didn't belong there. After the hustle and bustle of the parks, I found it relaxing to walk into the YC lobby.

The little kid part of SAB is a shorter walk from YC than from BC. I never pay extra for view, so I can't help you with that decision. We had a standard room in August (Rm 4160) that overlooked the wedding gazebo and had a partial view of the Boardwalk. It also had a daybed.

BC is closer to the international gateway at Epcot, which we appreciated. We had a standard view with a full balcony and got to watch the Epcot fireworks nightly from our room.

SAB was disappointing to us because it closed so early in the evening (7 or 8pm when we were there) - we wanted to swim with DS while it was still warm out but not under the blazing heat of mid-day, but were turned away because SAB was closing soon. So you might want to check the hours of SAB before planning your trip for that feature, and make sure it fits with your trip plans.

We always pick YC over BC because of the full balconies. We usually bring our three youngest - but in July we are bringing all of our kids (older ones, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and 3 grandchildren) and still pick YC.

YC is not "stuffy" but the lobby is more relaxing. BC always seems too "busy" to me with people waiting to get into Cape May Buffet. Both are terrific resorts. BC is closer to walk to EPCOT and YC is closer to the boats to EPCOT and MGM. YC is closer to the more shallow end of SAB and BC is closer to the SAB slide. Have fun!

When we have been there in June and July SAB did not close until 10:00. There are also quiet pools at both YC and BC.

I stayed BC concierge last dec and it was great. we walked over to the YC and loved it. We are stayting there this xmas for a few days then the disney cruise and then a few more days at the YC concierge. I am excited. I dont think you can pick a wrong one.

Hi! I'm glad you got your answers re SAB. I agree with the above posters for the most part, but I'll just share a bit of my own opinions too. We've stayed at both YC and BC and have twins 4 years old now.

YC: Yes, the sandy pool area is closer to YC, which we really liked. The decor is in gold tones, elegant, pretty. It has a quiet and relaxing feel to it. Most, if not all, balconies are full. Closer walk to boardwalk and MGM from YC.

BC: We notice more families and kids in BC than in YC probably because there is a character breakfast at BC. The decor is someone bright pastels and has a light, beachy feel to it. Balconies....well, we've had both the standing-room type and also full balconies. It can be somewhat difficult to get a full balcony at BC depending on how busy they are.

Views: We always book a standard view, so I can't help you with that. We've never had a parking lot view at either YC or BC. We normally have a view of the villas or a garden view. Last June at BC we had a nice partial view of the boardwalk and it was considered a standard view.

YC/BC: Picture a huge "U" in your head with the YC being on one side and BC on the other side. The inside part of the "U" is SAB and the bottom part of the "U" is a walkway that has Beaches & Cream and an arcade and other stuff. Inside the BC there is Marketplace to refill mugs and has some over-the-counter food options which we enjoy and also Gelato (which is awesome!), baked goods for morning or evening snacks, and also sells necessities and souventier and shopping stuff. Cape May character breakfast is also in BC. YC has a restaurant called Yacht Club Galley (which we've tried 2x and really didn't care for.....) and also Yachtsmans Steakhouse which is a nice sit-down restaurant.

They are both beautiful resorts. I think you may need to experience one or both before you know which you'll like better. Personally, we prefer BC because of the character meal and Marketplace. When we stayed at YC, we found ourselves walking over to BC almost every day. However, we will stay at YC again someday, so it's not that we don't like it there. Good luck with your decision!

YC is well accustomed to children. Most seem to be well behaved, but we did witness a meltdown or two. Children seem to react to the adults around them and their surroundings and act accordingly, for the most part. It's very child-friendly, so don't worry!

We selected YC over BC because of the full balconies. BC (in 2003, at any rate) didn't guarantee a balcony. We're returning to YC this December and bringing two children (ages 9 years and 3.5 months).

We've always had a waterview and loved it. In July though we booked standard view (since we're paying for all four rooms!). I requested rooms with a view of the wedding gazebo. My in-laws had a standard room there that was really nice, and if you looked sideways you could see the Lake and the marina.

TJA has almost my same views on YC/BC. We chose BC because I like a place that is light and airy. BC reminds you of the beach so the name is very fitting. BC also has Art, who your children will love to greet. We are going back in December and are not staying at BC but will be going by there just to say Hi to Art. Our room, standard view, at BC was very close to Epcot which was very convenient and exactly what I asked for. We went to the Marketplace every day and the Gellato was wonderful. The Cape May Cafe character breakfast was wonderful! Even our teenagers loved it and DD16 put in to go back again the next morning. She has also put in to go there for breakfast when we go in December and January. When we were hungry after coming back from BB, we just walked over to Epcot, got some CS food, and walked back to the room to eat it. Very convenient!!!

We went to the YC to see what it was like and had ADRs for Yacht Club Galley. YC was much darker and looked like it would be a YC. The wood is darker and the fabrics are darker. We really didn't see that many people in the lobby and there were only a few eating at the YC Galley when we were there for dinner. The food was pretty good to me, but if you have picky teenagers, that may be a different story. Mine were not impressed.

Really, we were just much more comfortable at BC. We will definitely be going back there soon. Good luck!!

Thank you for all your replies. It helps a lot as we've never been there. We had plans this past Oct. to visit some resorts so we'd have an idea as to what they were like. But - we ran out of time. So now we're wishing we had visited the resorts we were interested in. So this really helps.

Sounds like we can't go wrong either way. I was thinking prior to posting this question that we'd probably be over on the BC side a lot if we stayed at YC. I don't think we'll try the Steakhouse but I'll double check the menu. We'd definitely do Cape May Cafe for breakfast and closer to Epcot would be more convenient. I'll have to ask DH if a full balcony is a priority for him. When we stayed at the Poly we had a patio and I think DS8 & I sat out there once while the others napped & that was it.

Being closer to the kids section is a plus for the YC but it since YC and BC are next to each other I would think we could walk over that way easy enough. Lots to think about. Thanks again all I appreciate it.

Joanne

While the shallow end of the pool is closer to YC, it's not like it's a major hike from BC, either. I don't think you can go wrong with either place. I envy you making plans to stay there. My DH said OK to a 2008 trip as long as we stayed somewhere other than YC (just because he wants a change of scenery).

We just stayed at the BC and loved it, but I wish I had a full balcony. I only had a tiny one, although we discovered one night that we could see Illuminations from it, so that was cool. Still, I liked sitting out there to drink my coffee early in the morning and I had to rig up the chair so it was holding open the door and I was halfway in and halfway out. Why couldn't they make both resorts with full balconies?

We liked the Marketplace because DH filled our mugs and picked up cinnamon buns and muffins for a quick breakfast every morning, and loved seeing Art, and loved the closeness to Epcot, but if we ever stayed in that area again, we would try the YC and visit the BC every day. Heck, even if we don't stay in a resort in that area, we'll probably take a walk from Epcot to visit. We really enjoyed our stay at BC.

Thanks for your post. When I read about the balcony difference between YC and Bc I thought it was strange. Why would they build them like that? Weird. Sounds like you worked around it. I'm really not sure if we'd even use one much - but if we had a good view I would think we'd use a balcony. Thanks for the info.

DH and I were talking last night and its funny when we go on other vacations we don't go nuts trying to pick the best view/location for us. We just take what we get w/in reason of course. I think I'm having a hard time because we will only go every 2 or 3 years and its such a big production to get there plus a lot of $$$ to spend so I want us to like where we stay. I keep telling myself if we didn't like the resort we'd still be at Disney! Thanks all.

BC has everything so close....for the kids- character breakfast, pool, arcade, ice cream shop, closer to Epcot.

YC had nice balcony for adults to relax in the morning and enjoy some peace and quite. They each have there apeal to a differnt market segment :3dglasses

We stayed at the YC last month and had the best time! It was super quiet, hardly any kids at all but there was hardly any people anyways. The lobby was always empty, the quiet pool was empty...DH and I were the only ones there for 4 days. The Yacht Club Galley was super quiet....we ate breakfast there one morning and there was only 3 other tables nearby that were occupied...The BC on the other hand was a zoo. Their lobby was always jam packed with people and tons of kids. Stormalongbay pool was super busy and very loud.

We cannot wait to go back to the YC, it was a fantastic vacation

We normally pick the YC but only for the decor and SAB. You cannot go wrong with either one. They are both fabulous!! and YES the BC is closer to Epcot which is more convenient for those walks into Epcot in the evenings when you may be a little bit tired, so either one you pick will be a WONDERFUL Disney vacation. We have always traveled here with our children also so they are both very child-friendly.
Have Fun. I'm jealous because we are staying at the CSR this time. First time at a moderate. A little worried.

Thanks for the info. We'll probably go w/BC as we'll be going to the Marketplace alot, Beaches & Cream & Cape May but we'll see. DH is going to pick the resort this time w/my help!;)

Haven't stayed at CSR but we've stayed at POR (pre-kids) and we really liked that moderate resort. As our kids get older and we feel comfortable w/connecting rooms and the possiblity of not getting connecting rooms I think we'll definitely try the moderate. Although the cost of 2 moderates is about what it costs for a deluxe room so we'll see.

My sister did stay at CSR for her honeymoon and she really liked it. She liked the themeing as shes into the southeastern decor, she especially liked the Pepper Mill & she said the buses were fine. She said it was a beautiful resort and would return. Have a great time.

We 've stayed BC before and really enjoyed it. There is more going on in the BC lobby than the YC lobby since people will sit in the BC lobby to wait for Cape May. We are trying YC and doing a split stay with GF next summer!
I kind of had a hard time deciding ,too but since we hadn't tried YC before ,we went with it!:)
