To Split Stay or Not?

DH and I have our annual anniversary trip coming up in May. I booked a Poly studio for 5/4-5/8 because DH usually only lets me go to WDW for no more than 4 nights at a time. We were supposed to go on an 7 day Alaskan cruise in June with my parents and sisters, but DH won’t be able to get off work that week so I am going to have to cancel it. So then he said I could extend our May trip from Sunday to Sunday. So now I’m scrambling to book the other 3 nights. No availability at Poly now, plus that’s more points than we have left with all of our other trips booked next year. I try not to borrow or buy OTU points too much either, but I will if needed. I managed to get the last two nights at CCV, but nothing yet for the 5th night. We did a split stay once and it seemed like a lot of hassle, but it was a short trip, 2 nights at BLT and 2 nights at CCV so maybe it wasn’t a fair shot at it. I can put a waitlist in for either Poly or CCV for the missing night. Or BLT has 3 of the last 4 nights available, but the one in the middle not available, which I could waitlist. DH doesn’t love the idea of a split stay at all, he likes to just get in and get settled. The only thing available the entire week now is SSR, which is low points compared to everywhere else, but not sure if we would like it there. We’ve never stayed there and it seems to be hit or miss on how people feel about it there with all the buses and how large it is. This being a long trip, we could relax more though, which may work out well there. We tend to stay at the MK resorts the most because that’s where I like to be. We’ve tried BCV and BWV and the only thing we liked at either one was being close to Epcot and the skyliner. I’m just torn on what to do because it seems like saving points and staying at SSR the entire trip makes the most sense, but am I going to regret not being in the MK area?

If it’s just you two (splitting is a nightmare the more you have with you) then I think it’s nice to split. Plan the parks by resort if you can get something at BCV of BWV. I always liked doing a few nights at MK resorts and a few at crescent lake. Now not so much with kids to pack up and keep entertained/napped on a switch day!!

If I was only going for a week like you are, I'd prefer to stay in one place (and I'm biased towards SSR anyway).

I would 100% do a split stay with only 2 adults. We do them with kids. I would keep your Poly and try for the Epcot area or just do the rest at SSR. If you have done a split stay before, and you don't like it, then that's your answer. However, it never bothered us. You just need to be planned to not have a room after check-out. Perfect time to do a full park day after breakfast and checking out.

I'm a get-in-and-get-settled-for-the-duration person. So I'm anti-split stay. Also, I like SSR. Not love, but like. There's nothing available for that week at AKV/AKL? That would be my first choice

I like to feel settled too. I just don’t want to be disappointed, but we don’t know if we like SSR since we haven’t ever been there. AKV has the last 2 nights available, but not the Thursday night, which is the one that seems hardest to get anywhere.

Well, darn that pesky Thursday.

SSR is quite nice and easy access to DS is good, but SSR doesn't have the theming and ambience of either Poly or AKV. And if I were doing a split with SSR and Poly, I'd want to end up at Poly, not at SSR.

Just wanted to follow up on where I am now with this stay. I just called MS and after LOTS of patience from the agent to help me figure this out, she was able to find me a studio and booked the Thursday night at CCV to complete my stay. This was such a relief and she really went above and beyond the call of duty. So we are at Poly for 4 nights, then CCV for 3 nights. I am still going to look for availability to switch to an EPCOT resort for our last 3 nights for convenience, but if not I’m okay with where we are now and glad to not be homeless on Thursday anymore.
