Sorry if this question has been asked before...but we are tossing around the idea of renting a car for our stay at WDW. We are staying at CSR and know that there is transportation to all the parks, DTD, and the waterparks. However, I am going in July and have heard about the bus horror stories when the parks are crowded. Opinions???

We thought CSR had excellent bus service. When you leave the MK, it is the 1st queue. You are in a much better situation than those leaving for Pop (last queue, actually 2 queues FULL.)

CSR is pretty centrally located. You are practically across the street from Bizzard Beach and just around the corner from AK. But the other parks aren't too far either.

You should do OK w/o a car.

I will interested in the advice you get. We are going in 2 weeks, we will use ME to get to the hotel, but we have a car reserved with National the day after we get there. We figure that we will get a feel for if we think we need the car on the first day. We are staying at POR and have heard bus horror stories also.

I just did my first and last trip without a car - Disney transportation is fine but if you have a stroller - dont try it - I found it very hard to manage it on the bus - I also hated that I couldn;t just go when we were done - we had to wait 15 minutes for some buses - I could have had my kids back in bed in the time I waited a few times!

Others may not agree - we just really love having a car

I am leaving on Thursday with my 10 yr old for a four day stay.....

It will be the first time ever at WDW without renting a car. I must say, I am a little nervous waiting for the busses - it will be interesting how much extra time is takes up each day... as opposed to getting there ourselves.

We rode the bus to DTD once last year, and then to the MK once. DTD was great - very little wait..... but MK was long waits.
I will let you know how we make out!

I have been to WDW over 20 times and only rented a car once. The car sat in the lot for a week. When home I spend too much time in my car, on vacation I want someone else to drive me around. If you are the type that counts every minute and will get aggrivated if you've got to wait then rent a car. I'm relaxed on vacation we go for at least a week so not on a strict timetable where a wait will bother us. I know there are a lot of posts about how bad the transportation is but in all my trips I've never waited more than 15 minutes for a bus. And we've stayed at many different resorts. Of course I realize and think most should that at park closings you are going to wait. We just shop or sit on a bench watching everyone run for the exit by the time we leave we don't have a problem.

we mostly use WDW trans for the parks.
we've found that the time parking & getting a shuttle is about the same (more often LONGER) than waiting for a bus, & defiately not as much fun :)

BTW, we ALWAYS rent a car, but only use it to go off-site (eating & shopping) & to other resorts (where direct trans is not available).

We were there last August and only used Disney transportation. We had no problems at all, and as someone else mentioned, it probably takes just as long to park and then catch the shuttle. I also agree that it was more relaxing to have someone else do the driving. Whatever you decide, have a great trip.

Thanks everyone for responding! I am leaning towards NOT renting a car now. I was mostly worried about leaving the parks when it was real crowded, but my BF and I like to take our time so I was reading the advice some people gave to wait until most everyone has left and then catch a bus. That DEFINITLY sounds like us!
Once again thanks for all the advice! Hope everyone has a great trip :mickeybar
