To Rent or Not to Rent?

We don't typically venture off Disney property and we've never found it necessary to rent a car. Disney transportation works fine if you have a little patience.

Thank you...we do not plan on going off Disney Property. I guess hearing if folks think having a vehicle makes it easier versus the busses in July. I expect it to be busy and I know that POP's boarding spots are furthest away from the park gates....so far it seems as though using the busses is the winner.

Nothing worse than a hot car at the end of the day (or the middle of the day) and it gets brutally hot down there during the summer. Standing outside the car while it wasted gas cooling down was annoying, and got old for the kids pretty fast.

One year it got so hot our windshield cracked.

We never got uncomfortable on the bus rides from Pop Century. They have a great bus system, and getting onto a bus with AC was so much better than dealing with the hot car, trams, and traffic getting out of the parking lots. Then there's the navigating around, with crazy people changing lanes, stopping to take photos, etc. Too stressful for me, especially on vacation.

We drive down to WDW most trips, and still don't use the car except to go to Universal.

In the Unofficial GUide they have commuting times (if you go to Google Books you can actually find the chart if you ... (1) Search "Unoffical GUide to DIsney 2015" and "Google Books" then (2) search "Commuing TImes" it's pages 466-467) this should help give you an idea. IMO we always use a rental car. I like the flexibility.

We stayed at Pop during our last visit and since we drove to Florida we had a car. I prefer driving in most cases but many people said that Pop had good bus service so we tried it. I was very pleased with the service with us only having to wait quite a while once. The rest of the time the buses came quickly which hasn't been the case at the other resorts we stayed at.

You could try it without a car and then head to the Dolphin to rent if you just don't like it.
