To rent a car, or not???

Staying at OKW, May 2-8, for the first time and have heard non-flattering things about the bus service to the parks - maybe that situation has been corrected? I'm debating renting a car for the week - looks like I can get a midsize for about $135 for the week, plus gas.

Anyone have an opinion about whether it's worth it to have your own wheels? We're probably just going to the 4 major parks and 1 water park.

Related - how long a ride is it from OKW to each of the 4 parks?

If you are planning on taking a shuttle or town Car to your resort from MCO...then I would say it is worth it to rent a car!

We like to have a car for the freedom to go where we want. It is a short ride to all the parks, parking at them is free since you are staying on-site. It is also much easier to drive to other resorts, if you are planning on shopping or eating at any of the restaurants.

Thanks for the advice. And, I did just find the links that show driving distances between locations as well as the directions from anywhere to anywhere.

So, the parking is free at the 4 major parks? I wasn't sure about that and couldn't find specific reference to it on the Transportation board.

Your resort will give you a paper to put in your windshield, so when you get to the parking booths they just wave you through.

We find it very easy to get around by car - there are signs everywhere giving directions.

Yeah, if you are staying in an on-site hotel, they will put a piece of paper with your hotel information on the dashboard of your car. Then you can park at any park for free.

I'd also vote for renting a car. It gives you the freedom to come and go as you please. No waiting for busses to take you back to the airport. It is a personal preference, but I would never go without renting a car.
